She Promised Her Best Friend She’d Never Love His Brother — Then He Found the Photograph She Hid for Ten Years
Chapter 5
They barely had time to leave.
A crash came from the hallway.
Someone had entered the facility.
Julian grabbed Clara’s hand.
“Back door.”
They ran.
By the time they reached the parking lot, the storage locker had been emptied.
Everything was gone.
Except one thing.
The brass key.
Clara looked at it.
“Why would they leave this?”
Julian’s expression darkened.
“Because they want us to keep looking.”
That night, Marcus came to Clara’s apartment.
He had seen the photograph.
He knew she was investigating.
“You should have told me.”
Clara sighed.
“I was going to.”
“When?”
She couldn’t answer.
Marcus looked hurt.
“You’re my family.”
“I know.”
“Then stop shutting me out.”
Clara looked toward the window.
“I don’t know who I can trust.”
Marcus lowered his voice.
“You can trust me.”
Before Clara could respond, Julian called.
“Clara.”
“What happened?”
“I found Anna.”
Clara froze.
“She’s alive?”
“Yes.”
“And?”
Julian paused.
“She’s afraid.”
