She Promised Her Best Friend She’d Never Love His Brother — Then He Found the Photograph She Hid for Ten Years
Chapter 7
Anna Vale lived under another name near the coast.
She was older now.
Tired.
But when she saw Julian, she immediately began crying.
“You look like him.”
Julian’s jaw tightened.
“What happened to my father?”
Anna looked at Clara.
“Your mother knew.”
Clara stepped closer.
“What did she know?”
“Mercer was stealing from several companies. Your mother found the records.”
“Then why didn’t she expose him?”
“Because Mercer threatened her family.”
Clara’s breath caught.
“My mother never told me.”
“She wanted you to have a normal life.”
Anna reached into a drawer.
She removed an envelope.
“She left this with me.”
The envelope had Clara’s name on it.
Clara couldn’t open it.
Not yet.
Anna looked toward the window.
“Mercer knows you’re here.”
Julian stood.
“We need to leave.”
Anna shook her head.
“No.”
She looked directly at him.
“You need to finish what your father started.”
