No Nurse Lasted a Week with the Ruthless Mafia Boss — Until the Poor Nurse Broke the Rules
Chapter 14
One year later, Mia received a letter.
No return address.
Inside was a photograph.
Her father stood beside Adrian’s father outside the old hospital.
Both were smiling.
On the back:
They were trying to save people.
Mia showed Adrian.
He stared at it for a long time.
“Where did this come from?”
“I don’t know.”
He turned it over.
Another sentence had been written beneath the first.
You finally finished what they started.
Adrian looked at Mia.
“This isn’t over.”
“What do you mean?”
“The organization is gone.”
“Mostly.”
“Mostly?”
He pointed to the photograph.
“Look.”
Mia examined it.
Behind the two men stood a woman.
She was holding a medical file.
Mia recognized her.
“Who is that?”
Adrian’s expression changed.
“My mother.”
“She was involved?”
“I thought she died before my father.”
“She didn’t?”
Adrian shook his head.
“She disappeared.”
They searched old records.
His mother had been placed into witness protection decades earlier.
She had left one final message.
Adrian found it in a sealed court file.
I didn’t abandon my sons. I was trying to keep them alive.
The letter explained that she had discovered Gabriel’s plans.
She had secretly helped David Carter and Adrian’s father preserve evidence.
But she had been forced to disappear after Gabriel threatened the family.
She had watched Adrian from a distance.
She had known about Lucian.
She had known about Mia.
And she had chosen to remain hidden until the organization was dismantled.
Adrian finally met her.
Mia went with him.
The meeting was quiet.
His mother cried when she saw him.
Adrian didn’t speak for a long time.
Then he hugged her.
Mia stood several feet away.
When Adrian returned, his eyes were red.
“She knew.”
“Yes.”
“She knew everything.”
“Yes.”
“And she was afraid.”
Mia nodded.
Adrian looked toward her.
“I’m tired of being angry.”
Mia took his hand.
“Then don’t be.”
He looked at their hands.
For years, nobody had been allowed to touch Adrian Bellini without permission.
Mia had broken that rule on her first night.
She had done it again and again.
And somehow, instead of becoming his enemy, she had become the person who taught him that not every hand reaching for him was holding a weapon.
