No Nurse Lasted a Week with the Ruthless Mafia Boss — Until the Poor Nurse Broke the Rules
Chapter 5
The next morning, Adrian was gone.
Mia woke to a security alarm.
She ran downstairs.
Marcus was already moving toward the garage.
“What happened?”
“Mr. Bellini left.”
“Without medical supervision?”
“Yes.”
“Where?”
“We don’t know.”
Mia stared.
“That’s not good.”
Marcus looked at her.
“Why?”
“He had another episode last night.”
“What kind?”
“He complained of dizziness.”
Marcus’s face changed.
“You didn’t tell me.”
“He told me not to.”
“And you listened?”
Mia sighed.
“Apparently I make bad decisions.”
Marcus almost smiled.
Then a phone rang.
Adrian.
Mia answered.
“Where are you?”
“Hospital.”
“What?”
“Not me.”
Silence.
“Marcus was shot.”
Mia’s stomach dropped.
“What?”
“He’s alive.”
“Where?”
Adrian gave her the address.
Mia was already moving.
At the hospital, she found Adrian standing beside Marcus’s bed.
Blood covered the sleeve of his black shirt.
Mia ran to him.
“Are you hurt?”
“No.”
“Where’s Marcus?”
“Alive.”
She checked him.
The bullet had grazed his shoulder.
Adrian watched her.
“You always run toward danger.”
“You hired me to keep people alive.”
“I didn’t hire you for this.”
“No.”
She looked at him.
“But apparently nobody told me.”
Adrian’s phone rang.
He answered.
His expression changed.
“What?”
He listened.
Then slowly lowered the phone.
Mia saw it immediately.
“What?”
“Someone accessed my private medical files.”
“How?”
“I don’t know.”
“Who has access?”
Adrian looked at her.
“Everyone who works in my medical wing.”
Mia felt cold.
The poisoning attempt.
The dizziness.
The medical files.
Someone inside the house had access to Adrian’s health.
And they knew exactly what medication he received.
Mia looked toward the hospital corridor.
“We need to know who.”
Adrian nodded.
“You’re coming home with me.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re the only person I trust.”
Mia stared.
“You barely know me.”
“I know.”
“That doesn’t make sense.”
“It doesn’t have to.”
He stepped closer.
“You broke the rule.”
“What rule?”
“Never touch me without permission.”
Mia frowned.
“And?”
“You did it when I was unconscious.”
He looked at her.
“And you did it again when I was awake.”
Mia smiled slightly.
“Then I guess I’m getting worse.”
Adrian’s eyes softened.
“Yes.”
