Mafia Boss Discovers His Bride Is a Virgin… He Thought His Innocent Bride Was…

Chapter 9

Their relationship changed after that.

There was still danger.

Still lawyers.

Still enemies.

But something personal had begun.

Matteo became gentler around Isabella.

She became more confident.

He no longer saw her as a woman his family had delivered to him.

She was his partner.

One evening, Isabella asked:

“Why don’t you ever talk about having a family?”

Matteo looked at the city outside.

“Because I didn’t think I was allowed one.”

“Why?”

“Men like me create enemies.”

“You didn’t choose that life.”

“No.”

He paused.

“But I chose how to live with it.”

She stepped closer.

“And what do you want now?”

He looked at her.

“You.”

Her cheeks turned pink.

“You say that so easily.”

“I spent years saying nothing.”

She smiled.

“Maybe you’re making up for it.”

He laughed.

A month later, Matteo took her to the sea.

It was the first vacation either of them had taken during the marriage.

They walked along the shore.

No guards.

No meetings.

No family.

Just the two of them.

Isabella looked at him.

“Do you remember our wedding night?”

“Yes.”

“I was terrified.”

“I know.”

“You knew?”

“You couldn’t stop shaking.”

She laughed softly.

“I thought you hated me.”

“I barely knew you.”

“And now?”

He stopped.

“Now I know I can’t imagine my life without you.”

She looked down.

“I’m glad.”

He touched her cheek.

“I need you to know something.”

“What?”

“When I discovered you were innocent, it wasn’t your innocence that changed everything.”

She looked surprised.

“Then what was?”

“That someone lied about you.”

He continued.

“I didn’t fall in love with the woman they described.”

“I fell in love with the woman you actually are.”

Tears filled her eyes.

“That’s better.”

He smiled.

“I thought so.”

That evening, Isabella received a call.

The trust had been fully restored.

The forty million dollars belonged to her.

She could do whatever she wanted.

She looked at Matteo.

“What should I do?”

“Whatever you want.”

“You don’t want a say?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because it’s yours.”

She smiled.

“I think I want to create something.”

“What?”

“A foundation.”

“For what?”

“Children who lose their parents.”

Matteo looked at her.

“Why?”

“Because I know what it feels like to grow up believing adults are supposed to protect you.”

She squeezed his hand.

“I want children to know someone will.”

Matteo smiled.

“Then do it.”

Together, they built the foundation.

The first project was a shelter.

The second was a scholarship program.

The third was a legal support center.

And slowly, the woman who had entered his house as a frightened bride became something else.

His equal.
