Mafia Boss Discovers His Bride Is a Virgin… He Thought His Innocent Bride Was…
Chapter 15
Twenty years after their arranged marriage, Matteo and Isabella stood together at the opening of a new children’s center.
Their daughter Sofia was now twenty.
She had chosen to study law.
Not because her father wanted it.
Because she wanted it.
Matteo watched her speak to the young students.
“She gets that from you.”
Isabella smiled.
“Maybe.”
“No.”
He looked at his wife.
“She gets her courage from you.”
Isabella smiled.
She had changed since that first night.
She still loved books.
Still sang quietly.
Still preferred quiet rooms.
But she no longer lowered her eyes when people spoke.
She no longer apologized for taking up space.
And she no longer wondered whether she was worthy of love.
The ceremony ended.
The three of them stood together outside.
Sofia looked at them.
“Tell me something.”
“What?”
“Were you really married because your families forced you?”
Matteo nodded.
“At first.”
“And then?”
He looked at Isabella.
“Then we chose it.”
Sofia smiled.
“That’s better.”
She walked away.
Matteo turned toward Isabella.
“Would you do it all again?”
She thought.
“The fear?”
“No.”
“The secrets?”
“No.”
“The danger?”
“Definitely not.”
He laughed.
“What about me?”
She looked at him.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
She took his hand.
“Because the man I married was supposed to be a stranger.”
She smiled.
“But he became the person who taught me that trust is stronger than fear.”
Matteo kissed her forehead.
“And you taught me that power isn’t about making people obey.”
“What is it about?”
“Having someone you could control…”
He paused.
“…and choosing instead to give them freedom.”
Isabella’s eyes softened.
She rested her head against him.
Years ago, everyone had described her as an innocent bride.
They thought innocence meant weakness.
They thought her lack of experience made her easy to control.
They were wrong.
Her innocence had never been the most important thing about her.
Her courage was.
Her loyalty was.
Her heart was.
And Matteo had not fallen in love with her because she was untouched by the world.
He had fallen in love with her because despite everything the world had done to her, she still chose kindness.
The Mafia boss had entered the marriage expecting a political alliance.
He had ended up with a family.
A daughter.
A home.
And the one woman who had taught him that love was not possession.
It was choice.
And every morning, after all the danger was gone, Matteo still woke beside the woman he had once married for peace.
But now there was no contract holding them together.
No family agreement.
No threat.
No obligation.
Only two people who had once been forced into the same room—
and had spent the rest of their lives choosing to stay there.
