Alexander’s brother, Victor, had been accused of financial fraud years earlier.
But the accusations had never reached court.
Instead, he disappeared from the company.
Officially, he had moved overseas.
Unofficially, he had been building influence.
Noah asked:
“Why didn’t you expose him?”
“I didn’t have enough proof.”
“You have billions.”
“Money doesn’t create evidence.”
Noah nodded.
Alexander continued.
“My wife found the evidence.”
“What happened?”
“She died before she could release it.”
Noah stared at him.
“You think she was murdered?”
“I don’t know.”
That answer scared Noah more than certainty would have.
“What does this have to do with the marriage?”
“My wife left me controlling shares in trust.”
“And?”
“She knew Victor would eventually try to take them.”
The inheritance clause was supposed to prevent that.
If Alexander remained unmarried before the deadline, the voting shares would transfer to a trust.
Victor would control it.
Noah leaned back.
“So this marriage isn’t about you being sick.”
“No.”
“It’s about the company.”
“Yes.”
“Then why tell me you needed protection?”
“Because I do.”
Noah understood.
Alexander wasn’t afraid of losing money.
He was afraid of losing the company to someone dangerous.
And he was afraid that if he died, the truth would disappear with him.
The next morning, Emily went into labor.
Everything changed.
Noah rushed her to the hospital.
Alexander followed.
For hours, they waited.
Finally, a nurse appeared.
“A baby boy.”
Noah cried.
Alexander smiled.
Emily held the newborn.
“His name is Ethan.”
Alexander stood nearby.
“You should hold him.”
Alexander hesitated.
Then accepted the baby.
Something in his expression changed.
The powerful businessman disappeared.
For a moment, he was simply an older man holding a child.
“He’s beautiful.”
Emily smiled.
“He is.”
Alexander looked at Noah.
“Thank you.”
Noah nodded.
The next day, the hospital room received unexpected visitors.
Ryan.
He walked in wearing an expensive suit.
Emily froze.
“No.”
Ryan looked at his son.
“That’s my child.”
Emily shook her head.
“You left.”
“I made a mistake.”
“You stole my money.”
“I was angry.”
Noah stepped forward.
“You need to leave.”
Ryan looked at Alexander.
“Dad.”
Alexander’s face was cold.
“Get out.”
Ryan stared.
“You’re choosing them?”
“Yes.”
“They’re using you.”
Alexander answered:
“They’re the only people in this room who haven’t asked me for anything.”
Ryan left.
Emily cried.
Alexander stood quietly beside the bed.
“I am sorry.”
She looked at him.
“For what?”
“For raising a man who thought leaving was easier than staying.”
Noah touched his daughter’s shoulder.
The baby slept peacefully.
But outside the room, Ryan made a phone call.
“He chose them.”
A voice answered.
“Then use the baby.”
