Noah moved into Alexander’s guesthouse.
He refused the main mansion.
The guesthouse was larger than his entire home.
He hated it.
“This is ridiculous.”
Alexander looked around.
“You can have a smaller house.”
“Good.”
“I’ll arrange it.”
“No.”
Alexander raised an eyebrow.
“Why not?”
“Because you already gave me a contract.”
Noah pointed toward the room.
“I don’t want to feel like I’m spending money I didn’t earn.”
Alexander nodded.
“Fair.”
Emily moved into the guesthouse too.
She was due in less than two months.
Alexander’s staff took care of everything.
Doctors.
Nutritionists.
Security.
But he never made decisions for Emily.
That mattered to Noah.
One evening, Emily asked Alexander:
“Why are you really helping us?”
He hesitated.
Then answered:
“My son destroyed something good.”
She looked at him.
“You hate him?”
“No.”
That surprised her.
“I hate what he became.”
Alexander looked toward the window.
“I failed him.”
“How?”
“I gave him everything except boundaries.”
Emily sat quietly.
“You still love him.”
“Yes.”
“Even after what he did?”
“He’s my son.”
She nodded.
“I understand.”
Alexander looked at her.
“You’re allowed to hate him.”
“I don’t hate him.”
“Why?”
“Because my baby doesn’t need that.”
Alexander smiled.
“You sound like your father.”
Emily laughed.
“He’s stubborn.”
“I noticed.”
Noah walked in.
“What did I do?”
“Nothing.”
“You’re talking about me.”
Emily smiled.
“Always.”
They ate dinner together.
For the first time, it almost felt like a family.
Then the business crisis escalated.
Alexander’s board received an anonymous complaint.
They claimed he had entered a fraudulent marriage to manipulate the inheritance.
Charlotte demanded an investigation.
Victor Reed supported her.
Alexander’s attorney warned:
“They’re trying to trigger the inheritance clause.”
Noah frowned.
“What happens if they succeed?”
“I lose control of the company.”
“How much is at stake?”
“About $6 billion.”
Noah stared.
“That’s ridiculous.”
“Yes.”
“And this is why you needed a husband?”
“Yes.”
Noah shook his head.
“Your family is insane.”
Alexander almost smiled.
“I know.”
Meanwhile, Charlotte approached Emily.
She acted friendly.
“You must be overwhelmed.”
Emily smiled politely.
“I am.”
“You don’t know us yet.”
“No.”
Charlotte lowered her voice.
“I know things about Ryan.”
Emily stiffened.
“What things?”
“Things that could hurt your father-in-law.”
Before Emily could respond, Charlotte walked away.
That night, Emily told Noah.
He confronted Alexander.
“Who is Charlotte?”
“My sister-in-law.”
“Why is she threatening my daughter?”
Alexander’s face hardened.
“She wouldn’t.”
“She did.”
Alexander called security.
Charlotte was removed from the estate.
But before she left, she smiled at Noah.
“You don’t know what you’ve married into.”
Noah replied:
“Neither do you.”
After she was gone, Alexander looked at Noah.
“There are things I haven’t told you.”
Noah sighed.
“I figured.”
“My wife died eight years ago.”
“I know.”
“But I didn’t tell you why.”
Noah waited.
“She was investigating someone inside the company.”
“Who?”
