Daniel Reeves.
Ethan planned to report everything to the board.
Olivia told him to wait.
“Why?”
“Because if Reeves is involved, he isn’t working alone.”
“We need to expose everyone.”
“If we move too early, they’ll destroy the evidence.”
Ethan looked at her.
“How do you know that?”
She paused.
“I’ve dealt with people like them.”
He nodded.
But he didn’t ask.
That was one reason she trusted him.
Olivia began building her own case.
She accessed old financial reports.
Compared them with current numbers.
Followed unusual expense patterns.
Then she found the biggest problem.
A subsidiary called Bennett Strategic Partners had been moving money between divisions.
The transfers had been approved by someone with the CEO’s authorization.

Olivia froze.

She called Ethan.
“Come to my office.”
He arrived within minutes.
“What happened?”
She showed him.

“This is bad.”
“Very.”
“Someone is setting you up.”
Olivia stared at him.
“I think so.”
“Who has access?”
“Too many people.”
Ethan looked at her.
“Then we narrow it down.”
They spent the night working.
Around midnight, Olivia fell asleep at her desk.
Ethan found her.
He smiled.
“You need sleep.”
She woke.
“I was working.”
“I noticed.”
He placed a cup of coffee beside her.
“You remembered?”
“What?”
“How I take it.”
He smiled.
“You don’t put sugar in it.”
She looked at him.
“You notice everything.”
“Apparently.”
There was a moment of silence.
Olivia looked away.
“Ethan?”
“Yes?”
“What would you do if the company you worked for turned out to be corrupt?”
“Walk away.”
“Even if it was worth billions?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because no amount of money is worth becoming someone you hate.”
Olivia looked at him.
She wanted to tell him everything.
Instead, she smiled.
“Good answer.”
The next morning, Daniel Reeves announced that a major financial review would be conducted.
Olivia knew exactly what that meant.
They were moving.
Before she could respond, an assistant rushed into her office.
“Olivia, there’s been an emergency.”
“What happened?”
“The CEO is coming.”
She froze.
“What?”
“The CEO wants to meet you.”
