He Lent His Laptop to a Girl for an Interview — Unaware She Was the Disguised CEO!

Chapter 8

Olivia confronted William privately.

“Did you know?”

He looked tired.

“Know what?”

“The transfers.”

“What transfers?”

She put the documents on his desk.

William stared at them.

“I didn’t authorize these.”

“Your digital signature did.”

“Then someone forged it.”

Olivia watched him.

“Who has access?”

“Only a few people.”

“Who?”

He gave her the names.

The same list Ethan had found.

Then William added something unexpected.

“There is another person.”

“Who?”

“Your father.”

Olivia froze.

“My father retired.”

William nodded.

“He did.”

“Then why?”

William took a breath.

“Because he never really left.”

Olivia stared.

“What does that mean?”

“He still controlled several private accounts.”

“Why?”

“Because he believed you weren’t ready.”

Olivia felt betrayed.

Her father had trusted her enough to make her CEO.

But not enough to let go.

That evening, she went to Ethan’s office.

“I need to tell you something.”

He looked up.

“My father may be involved.”

“Are you sure?”

“No.”

She sat down.

“I don’t want him to be.”

Ethan remained silent.

“You know what the worst part is?”

“What?”

“I came here thinking I was investigating strangers.”

She looked at him.

“Now I’m investigating my family.”

Ethan reached for her hand.

“You don’t have to do it alone.”

She looked at him.

“I know.”

Then she whispered,

“That’s the problem.”

“What?”

“I’m starting to depend on you.”

He smiled.

“You don’t have to apologize for that.”

She laughed softly.

“You make everything sound simple.”

“It isn’t.”

He squeezed her hand.

“But we can handle it.”

Their relationship deepened.

They worked together.

Ate together.

Talked long after midnight.

And slowly, something neither had planned began to happen.

Olivia fell in love.

So did Ethan.

Neither said it.

Not yet.

Then William disappeared.

His office was empty.

His phone was off.

A note remained on his desk.

Don’t trust anyone.

Olivia stared at it.

Ethan stood beside her.

“He’s running.”

“No.”

She shook her head.

“He’s warning us.”
