They found William three days later at an old family property.
He was sitting alone in a dark study.
Olivia entered first.
“Why did you disappear?”
William looked at her.
“Because they were watching me.”
“Who?”
“The people behind the scheme.”
Olivia stepped closer.
“Were you involved?”
“No.”
She studied him.
“Tell me the truth.”
William sighed.
“I knew there were irregularities.”
“You knew?”
“I suspected.”
“That isn’t enough.”
“I was trying to protect you.”
“By hiding it?”
He looked away.
“I thought I could handle it.”
Olivia became angry.
“You almost let them destroy my company.”
“I was trying to save it.”
“From whom?”
William finally answered.
“Your father.”
Silence.
Olivia froze.
“My father?”
“He created the structure that allowed them to move money.”
“Why?”
“Because he believed the company needed private reserves.”
“That doesn’t explain the fraud.”
“No.”
William shook his head.
“Your father wasn’t the mastermind.”
“Then who was?”
“Daniel Reeves.”
“But he didn’t have that much power.”
“Someone gave it to him.”
“Who?”
William looked at her.
“I don’t know.”
Ethan stepped forward.
“We have one more question.”
William stared.
“Where is the original ledger?”
William’s expression changed.
“You found the fake reports.”
“Yes.”
“But not the original books.”
“No.”
He nodded.
“Then you haven’t seen the worst.”
William gave them an address.
An old archive building outside the city.
Inside, they found boxes containing financial records from twenty years earlier.
The fraud had started much earlier than anyone realized.
The company had been used to move money between private interests.
Executives changed.
The system remained.
Olivia stared at the records.
“This is bigger than Daniel.”
Ethan nodded.
Then she saw another name.
Her father’s.
She closed her eyes.
“I need to know.”
They kept digging.
The documents revealed that Olivia’s father had known about the illegal structure.
He had not created it.
But he had allowed it to continue.
Olivia felt devastated.
“He knew.”
Ethan didn’t defend him.
“Yes.”
“Why?”

She shook her head.

“What will you do?”

“End it.”
She walked toward the archive room.
