Everyone Ignored Her… Until The Dean Read Her Final Letter

Chapter 9

The federal investigation reached its breaking point.

Arrests were made.

Accounts were frozen.

Companies were raided.

The university board resigned.

Dean Whitmore was charged.

Ethan testified against his father.

Professor Harris cooperated fully.

But Victor Hale remained missing.

Emily continued searching.

Then she noticed something.

Every major transaction in the network had occurred on one of three dates.

The dates of major university ceremonies.

Graduation.

Homecoming.

Founders Day.

Emily checked the locations.

Every transaction corresponded to a physical event.

That meant the money wasn’t simply being transferred.

It was being exchanged.

In person.

The next event was Founders Day.

Emily knew Victor would be there.

She told Agent Mitchell.

Federal agents prepared a surveillance operation.

But Emily insisted on attending.

Mitchell objected.

“No.”

“I can identify him.”

“We have photographs.”

“You don’t understand.”

Emily showed her father’s notebook.

“He changes identities.”

Mitchell sighed.

“Stay behind the agents.”

The Founders Day ceremony began at noon.

Thousands of people filled the campus.

Emily stood near the back.

Then she saw him.

An elderly man in a gray suit.

Nothing remarkable.

But Emily recognized his watch.

Her father had drawn it in his notebook.

Victor Hale.

Emily quietly told Mitchell.

Agents moved.

Victor noticed.

He ran.

A chase began through the university halls.

Emily followed from a distance.

Victor disappeared into the old administration building.

Agents surrounded it.

But he was gone.

Then Emily noticed a door.

A door that had never appeared on campus maps.

She opened it.

A staircase led underground.

At the bottom was an old records room.

Files filled the shelves.

Names.

Payments.

Photographs.

Everything.

And in the center sat a box with her father’s name.

Emily opened it.

Inside was a letter.

Her hands shook.

Emily,

If you found this, I failed to protect you.

She began crying.

But you succeeded in becoming stronger than I ever was.

She read every word.

Her father had known that one day she would discover the truth.

He had left the final evidence for her.

Not because he wanted revenge.

Because he wanted her to understand.

The final line broke her heart.

Don’t spend your life fighting darkness. Build something that makes it harder for darkness to grow.

Emily closed the letter.

Behind her, Agent Mitchell entered.

“Emily.”

She turned.

“I found it.”

“What?”

“The evidence.”

She held up the box.

“We can end this.”
