Billionaire Pretends To Be Homeless To Find True Love, Then This Happened

Chapter 8

Adrian eventually told Emily everything about his childhood.

His father.

His mother’s death.

His fear of being used.

His obsession with money.

His reason for pretending to be homeless.

Emily listened.

When he finished, she said:

“I understand why you did it.”

Adrian nodded.

“But understanding isn’t the same as approving.”

“I know.”

She smiled.

“Good.”

They continued dating.

Slowly.

Honestly.

No secrets.

No experiments.

Adrian introduced Emily to his family.

His younger sister, Claire, loved her immediately.

His mother was gone, but Adrian took Emily to the cemetery.

He stood before the grave.

“This is the woman who taught me everything.”

Emily took his hand.

“She’d be proud.”

Adrian smiled.

“I hope so.”

Emily began spending time at Blackwell Holdings.

She wasn’t interested in luxury.

She wanted to understand Adrian’s world.

One day, she asked:

“Why don’t you create affordable housing?”

Adrian laughed.

“Because that’s not our business.”

“Why not?”

“We invest.”

“You invest in buildings.”

“Yes.”

“Then build homes people can afford.”

Adrian stared.

“That’s complicated.”

“So?”

He smiled.

“You really don’t know how to leave things alone.”

“No.”

Within a year, Blackwell Holdings launched a new division.

Affordable housing.

Community cafés.

Small business loans.

Medical support programs.

Emily became an informal advisor.

She never wanted a title.

She simply asked questions.

“Who benefits?”

“Who gets left out?”

“How does this affect ordinary people?”

Adrian valued her opinion more than most executives.

One evening, Marcus said:

“You’re going to marry her.”

Adrian smiled.

“I hope so.”

“You used to hate marriage.”

“I hated the idea of being trapped.”

“And now?”

“Now I understand the difference between being trapped and choosing to stay.”

Marcus nodded.

“That’s growth.”

Months later, Adrian took Emily back to the bakery where they had first met.

The awning was still there.

The umbrella had long since disappeared.

Emily smiled.

“You remember?”

“Every detail.”

He reached into his pocket.

She looked surprised.

He wasn’t holding a diamond ring.

Instead, he held a small folded piece of paper.

“What is that?”

“The first note I wrote after meeting you.”

She opened it.

It said:

She gave me an umbrella without asking for anything.

Emily smiled.

“You kept this?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because it was the first time in years someone gave me something without expecting anything back.”

Emily looked at him.

“And now?”

“Now I want to give you something.”

He got down on one knee.

Emily covered her mouth.

Adrian opened a small box.

Inside was a simple ring.

Nothing extravagant.

No giant diamond.

Just something elegant.

“I don’t want you to marry a billionaire.”

Emily’s eyes filled with tears.

“I want you to marry Adrian.”

She laughed through her tears.

“Is that the man who pretended to be homeless?”

“Unfortunately.”

She shook her head.

“You’re impossible.”

“Is that a yes?”

She knelt beside him.

“It’s a yes.”

They hugged beneath the old bakery awning.

And neither of them cared who was watching.
