Billionaire Pretends To Be Homeless To Find True Love, Then This Happened
Chapter 5
Adrian’s heart dropped.
He called Emily.
Nothing.
He went to the bakery.
Closed.
He checked the park.
Nothing.
Then Marcus arrived.
“What happened?”
“She’s gone.”
Marcus looked at the note.
“Maybe she found out.”
Adrian shook his head.
“Found out what?”
“About you.”
Adrian stared at him.
Marcus sighed.
“You knew this could happen.”
“I know.”
They searched for Emily.
Hours passed.
Finally, Adrian received a message.
Meet me at the old train station. Alone.
He immediately recognized the danger.
Marcus told him not to go.
Adrian went anyway.
The station was almost empty.
Emily stood beneath a broken streetlight.
She looked angry.
And hurt.
“You lied to me.”
Adrian stopped.
“Emily.”
“Don’t.”
She held up her phone.
On the screen was an article.
BLACKWELL BILLIONAIRE VANISHES FROM PUBLIC LIFE
Adrian closed his eyes.
“How did you—”
“Someone sent it to me.”
She looked at him.
“Daniel isn’t your name.”
Adrian said nothing.
“You’re Adrian Blackwell.”
She laughed bitterly.
“The billionaire.”
“I can explain.”
“Can you?”
“Yes.”
“Did you ever lose your job?”
“No.”
“Did you ever need help paying rent?”
“No.”
“Did you ever struggle to buy food?”
“No.”
Her voice shook.
“So everything was fake.”
“No.”
“You lied every day.”
“I lied about my identity.”
“That’s not better.”
Adrian stepped closer.
“I wanted to know if someone could love me without my money.”
Emily stared.
“So you turned me into an experiment?”
“No.”
“You were studying me.”
“No.”
“Watching me.”
“I was trying to understand.”
“Understand what?”
“Whether you cared about me.”
Emily’s eyes filled with tears.
“You could have just asked.”
Adrian had no answer.
She walked away.
“Emily.”
She stopped.
“Was anything real?”
“Everything.”
She looked at him.
“Then prove it.”
She left.
Adrian stood alone.
For the first time, his experiment had succeeded.
He had found someone who didn’t love him for his money.
But he had lost her because of the lie.
He returned to Manhattan.
He couldn’t sleep.
He couldn’t work.
He couldn’t eat.
Marcus tried to help.
“You need to give her time.”
Adrian nodded.
Then Richard made his move.
He released documents suggesting Adrian had abandoned the company.
Investors panicked.
Blackwell Holdings’ stock collapsed further.
The board demanded Adrian resign.
He refused.
“I’m not leaving.”
“You disappeared.”
“I made a mistake.”
“Your personal life has endangered the company.”
Adrian looked at them.
“My personal life has nothing to do with Richard stealing from us.”
The room went silent.
He presented evidence.
Richard had bribed employees.
He had sold confidential information.
He had manipulated accounts.
Within days, Richard was arrested.
The company stabilized.
But Adrian still felt empty.
One evening, he returned to the bakery.
Emily was there.
He stopped outside.
She looked through the window.
Their eyes met.
She didn’t smile.
Adrian walked in.
“I won’t lie to you again.”
Emily said nothing.
“I don’t expect you to forgive me.”
Still nothing.
“But I need you to know that what I felt was real.”
She looked away.
“I know.”
Adrian froze.
“You do?”
“Yes.”
“Then why?”
“Because trust doesn’t disappear just because feelings are real.”
He nodded.
“I understand.”
He placed an envelope on the counter.
“What is that?”
“A lease.”
She opened it.
It was for a small building two blocks away.
The exact kind of place she had described.
A café.
Books.
Cheap food.
A community space.
Emily stared at him.
“You bought this?”
“No.”
She looked surprised.
“I put it in your name.”
“Why?”
“Because you said you wanted it.”
“I can’t accept this.”
“I know.”
He smiled.
“So don’t.”
He walked away.
Emily watched him leave.
She didn’t call him back.
Not yet.
