Billionaire Pretends To Be Homeless To Find True Love, Then This Happened

Chapter 7

The man outside the café took photographs.

Adrian noticed him.

He immediately stood.

Emily looked concerned.

“What?”

“Stay inside.”

Adrian walked outside.

The man disappeared into the crowd.

Adrian called Marcus.

“We have a problem.”

Within an hour, Marcus identified him.

Victor Kane.

Richard’s former business partner.

He had helped move the stolen funds.

He was dangerous.

Marcus warned Adrian.

“Don’t underestimate him.”

Adrian returned to the café.

Emily noticed his expression.

“What happened?”

“Nothing.”

She shook her head.

“Don’t do that.”

“Do what?”

“Protect me by lying.”

Adrian sighed.

“Someone connected to my former CFO is watching you.”

Emily froze.

“Why?”

“Because of me.”

“Then what do we do?”

“I’ll arrange security.”

“No.”

“Emily.”

“I don’t want bodyguards.”

“You need them.”

She looked at him.

“Then stay.”

Adrian blinked.

“What?”

“If you’re worried about me, stay.”

He smiled.

“I can do that.”

That night, Adrian slept on the couch in the café’s small upstairs apartment.

Emily slept downstairs.

The next morning, everything seemed normal.

Until the café’s windows were smashed.

Nobody was injured.

But a message had been painted on the wall.

YOU CAN’T HIDE BEHIND HIM FOREVER.

Emily stared.

Adrian felt responsible.

“I’m sorry.”

She shook her head.

“This isn’t your fault.”

“It is.”

“No.”

She stepped closer.

“You didn’t choose what that man did.”

“But I brought danger into your life.”

Emily looked at him.

“Maybe.”

She paused.

“But you also brought something else.”

“What?”

“Someone who stays.”

Adrian didn’t answer.

The police arrived.

Security cameras were reviewed.

Victor had disappeared.

That evening, Adrian asked Emily to leave the city.

She refused.

“This is my home.”

“I can buy you another one.”

“No.”

“I can protect you.”

“I don’t need a mansion.”

“I know.”

She smiled.

“That’s the problem with you.”

“What?”

“You still think money fixes everything.”

Adrian laughed.

“Fair.”

She touched his arm.

“But you’re learning.”

They rebuilt the café.

Adrian helped paint the walls.

He assembled tables.

He burned himself with a coffee machine.

Emily laughed for ten minutes.

“You’ve managed billion-dollar companies but can’t operate a coffee machine.”

“Apparently.”

By the end of the week, the café reopened.

Customers returned.

The community rallied around Emily.

Then something unexpected happened.

A woman entered.

She was elderly.

She carried a small envelope.

“Are you Emily?”

“Yes.”

The woman handed her the envelope.

“This belonged to my son.”

Emily opened it.

Inside was a letter.

Her son had been homeless.

He had died months earlier.

The letter thanked Emily for feeding him.

He had written:

You were the first person who treated me like I still mattered.

Emily cried.

Adrian read the letter.

He realized something.

Emily had been doing this long before he met her.

She hadn’t been kind because she thought someone important was watching.

She was kind because that was who she was.

That was the answer he had been searching for.

Not a woman who loved a billionaire.

Not a woman who loved a poor man.

A woman who loved people.

And for the first time, Adrian understood that true love wasn’t about discovering someone who passed a test.

It was about becoming someone worthy of trust.
