Billionaire Pretends To Be Homeless To Find True Love, Then This Happened

Chapter 11

Ten years after they met, Emily and Adrian returned to the old bakery.

It had changed.

The original owner had retired.

The building was now a small bookstore.

But the awning remained.

Emily stood beneath it.

“Do you remember the rain?”

Adrian smiled.

“How could I forget?”

“You were miserable.”

“I was pretending to be miserable.”

“You were actually miserable.”

He laughed.

She looked at him.

“Why did you really choose me?”

Adrian thought.

“Because you didn’t choose me.”

Emily laughed.

“That makes no sense.”

“It does.”

He continued.

“You didn’t choose a billionaire.”

“You didn’t choose someone powerful.”

“You didn’t choose someone who could give you everything.”

“You chose a stranger who looked cold.”

Emily smiled.

“And you chose me because I gave you an umbrella?”

“That was the beginning.”

“Then what?”

“Everything else.”

They walked down the street.

People passed them.

Nobody recognized Adrian.

He liked that.

He wasn’t a billionaire.

He wasn’t a CEO.

He was simply a husband walking beside his wife.

At the café, Grace was waiting.

She was fifteen now.

She had her mother’s kindness and her father’s stubbornness.

“Where were you?”

“Taking a walk.”

Grace rolled her eyes.

“You two are old.”

Emily laughed.

Adrian looked offended.

“I’m thirty-eight.”

“You’re forty-eight.”

Adrian stared.

“That’s rude.”

Grace laughed.

That evening, they had dinner together.

Grace asked:

“Mom, is it true Dad used to pretend to be homeless?”

Emily nodded.

“Yes.”

“That’s insane.”

“I agree.”

Adrian shook his head.

“You’ve heard this story too many times.”

Grace smiled.

“I think it’s romantic.”

Adrian looked at Emily.

“See?”

Emily laughed.

“It’s romantic now.”

“Exactly.”

Grace asked:

“Would you do it again?”

Adrian and Emily looked at each other.

“No.”

They answered together.

Everyone laughed.

Adrian leaned back.

He had learned his lesson.

Love didn’t require deception.

It required courage.

The courage to be known.

The courage to be vulnerable.

The courage to trust another person with the truth.

That had been the thing his billions couldn’t buy.

And it had been the one thing Emily had given him freely.
