Billionaire Ordered in a Foreign Language to Humiliate the Waitress — Her Reply Left Him Speechless
Chapter 13
Six months later, Adrian returned to the restaurant where everything had begun.
Table twelve was empty.
He sat there alone.
The manager approached nervously.
“Mr. Blackwood?”
Adrian smiled.
“Just Adrian.”
The manager nodded.
“Would you like the usual?”
Adrian looked toward the bar.
“No.”
“What would you like?”
“Coffee.”
The manager smiled.
“Of course.”
A few minutes later, Amelia walked in.
She was no longer wearing the restaurant uniform.
She had started studying law.
She placed a folder on the table.
“The foundation’s first legal clinic opens next month.”
Adrian nodded.
“Good.”
She sat down.
“You know what I keep thinking about?”
“What?”
“That first night.”
Adrian smiled.
“I’d rather forget it.”
“I don’t.”
“Why?”
“Because if you hadn’t been arrogant…”
She raised an eyebrow.
“…we might never have discovered the truth.”
Adrian laughed.
“That may be the first time anyone has thanked me for being an idiot.”
Amelia smiled.
Then she looked serious.
“Why did you say those things in French?”
Adrian sighed.
“I was trying to impress my executives.”
“You were trying to humiliate me.”
“Yes.”
She studied him.
“Why?”
Adrian looked down.
“Because I thought power meant making other people feel small.”
Amelia nodded.
“And now?”
He looked around the restaurant.
“I think power is what you do when nobody is afraid of you.”
She smiled.
Ethan arrived later.
Claire followed.
For the first time, the four of them sat at the same table.
No bodyguards.
No executives.
No cameras.
No lawyers.
Just family.
Halfway through dinner, Ethan asked:
“Dad?”
Adrian looked up.
“Yes?”
“Did you really have a billion dollars once?”
Amelia laughed.
Claire smiled.
Adrian shrugged.
“More.”
Ethan stared.
“What happened to it?”
“I gave most of it away.”
“Why?”
Adrian looked at his children.
“Because I finally learned that having everything isn’t the same as having something worth keeping.”
Claire reached across the table.
Her hand rested beside his.
Not quite touching.
But close.
Adrian noticed.
He didn’t move.
Neither did she.
Sometimes forgiveness began with something as small as leaving a hand within reach.
