Billionaire Dad Pretended To Be Sick To Test His Son’s Caregiver, Her Reaction Stunned Him
Chapter 8
The house erupted into chaos.
Security searched every room.
The gates were locked.
Cars were checked.
Police were called.
Elena stood in the middle of the hallway, pale.
Marcus looked at her.
“When did you last see him?”
“Ten minutes ago.”
Daniel grabbed his phone.
“Check the cameras.”
Thomas ran toward the security room.
Minutes later, he returned.
“There was a blind spot.”
“What?”
“Camera seven stopped recording.”
Marcus’s face hardened.
“Who disabled it?”
Thomas hesitated.
“Someone with internal access.”
Daniel looked at Elena.
Marcus noticed.
“Don’t.”
Daniel frowned.
“Dad—”
“Not now.”
They found Noah’s backpack near the garden gate.
Inside was a toy dinosaur.
Nothing else.
Then Elena saw something.
A red thread caught on the gate.
She touched it.
“This wasn’t here before.”
Thomas examined it.
“Fabric.”
Elena shook her head.
“No.”
“What?”
“My mother used to sew this pattern.”
Everyone stared at her.
She looked at the thread.
“It’s from an old kind of coat.”
Daniel asked:
“Who wears one?”
Elena’s face changed.
“My mother’s brother.”
Marcus frowned.
“You have an uncle?”
“I haven’t seen him in fifteen years.”
“What is his name?”
“Robert Brooks.”
Marcus immediately ordered a search.
Robert had a criminal record.
Fraud.
Extortion.
Financial crimes.
He had disappeared years earlier.
Then a call came.
A voice said:
“Bring the billionaire to the old railway station.”
Marcus listened.
“Who is this?”
“You have two hours.”
“Where is Noah?”
A child’s voice whispered in the background.
“Grandpa?”
Marcus closed his eyes.
“Noah!”
The line went dead.
Daniel looked at him.
“I’m coming.”
“No.”
“I’m his father.”
“And I’m his grandfather.”
Elena stepped forward.
“I’m coming too.”
Marcus shook his head.
“No.”
She looked at him.
“I know Robert.”
“That makes you a target.”
“That makes me useful.”
Marcus stared.
She was right.
They drove to the railway station.
The place had been abandoned for years.
Marcus entered first.
Daniel followed.
Elena stayed between them.
Then a man stepped from the shadows.
Robert Brooks.
Older.
Tired.
Angry.
He held Noah’s hand.
The boy was unharmed.
Robert looked at Elena.
“You.”
She froze.
“Uncle Robert?”
He laughed.
“You finally found out who the Sterlings are?”
Elena frowned.
“What are you talking about?”
Robert looked at Marcus.
“Ask him.”
Marcus stepped forward.
“Let the boy go.”
Robert shook his head.
“You don’t remember me, do you?”
Marcus stared.
Then recognition came.
Robert had once worked for the Sterling Foundation.
He had been fired for stealing money.
But there was more.
Robert smiled.
“You don’t remember because men like you never remember the people you destroy.”
Elena looked at Marcus.
“What did you do?”
Marcus’s face went pale.
Robert said:
“Ask him about the woman who died because he refused her medical request.”
Elena froze.
“My mother?”
Robert nodded.
“But that’s not the whole story.”
He looked at Marcus.
“Your father ordered the rejection.”
Marcus’s eyes widened.
“My father?”
Robert smiled.
“And he wasn’t alone.”
