Billionaire Dad Pretended To Be Sick To Test His Son’s Caregiver, Her Reaction Stunned Him

Chapter 13

On the tenth anniversary of Rachel’s death, the family visited her grave.

Marcus brought flowers.

Daniel brought Noah.

Elena came too.

They stood quietly.

Noah placed a drawing beside the flowers.

“It’s for Grandma.”

Daniel smiled.

Marcus looked at the photograph on the headstone.

Rachel was smiling.

He whispered:

“I finally understand what you wanted.”

Daniel heard him.

“What?”

Marcus looked at his son.

“She wanted us to stop trying to replace her.”

Daniel’s eyes filled with tears.

“I miss her.”

“So do I.”

Elena stepped closer.

“You don’t have to stop.”

Daniel looked at her.

“What?”

“Missing someone.”

She smiled gently.

“You just have to make room for the people who are still here.”

Daniel nodded.

Marcus looked at Elena.

He remembered the first day she had arrived.

He remembered the fake illness.

The test.

Her refusal to panic.

Her decision to stay with Noah.

Her forgiveness.

He realized she had never once asked the family to love her.

She simply kept showing up.

That was what had changed everything.

Not money.

Not power.

Consistency.

That night, Marcus asked Elena to walk with him.

“I owe you another apology.”

She smiled.

“You’ve apologized enough.”

“No.”

He stopped.

“I spent my whole life believing people needed to prove they deserved trust.”

Elena waited.

“But you taught me something.”

“What?”

“Trust is something you give before someone can prove it.”

She smiled.

“Sometimes.”

Marcus nodded.

“I wish I had learned sooner.”

“So do I.”

They laughed.

Then Marcus looked toward the house.

Inside, Daniel and Noah were arguing over a board game.

The sound made him smile.

“Do you ever regret staying?”

Elena looked at him.

“No.”

“Why?”

She watched the family.

“Because I came here to take care of a child.”

She smiled.

“And somehow, I found a family.”
