Accountant Sold By Her Stepbrother—Then 3 Mafia Bosses Claimed Her As Their Own
Chapter 8
The next morning, Clara disappeared.
She left the safe house before sunrise.
She needed answers.
Not from the three men.
From the numbers.
She reviewed the files alone.
One transaction kept appearing.
A transfer made eleven years earlier.
The day her father died.
The money had been moved from one account into another.
The recipient was anonymous.
But the authorization code belonged to…
Clara froze.
She checked again.
The code belonged to Adrian Volkov.
Her heart sank.
She printed the document.
Then she heard footsteps.
Adrian entered.
He saw the paper.
“You found it.”
Clara stood.
“You authorized the transfer.”
Adrian didn’t deny it.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because your father asked me to.”
She stared.
“What?”
“He knew he was going to die.”
“Then why didn’t he tell me?”
“Because he wanted you safe.”
Clara shook her head.
“You’re lying.”
Adrian walked closer.
“He gave me the money.”
“Why?”
“To hide it.”
“Where?”
“Somewhere Black Meridian would never look.”
Clara stared.
“Where?”
Adrian smiled sadly.
“Your father’s grave.”
She froze.
“The money?”
“No.”
“The original ledger.”
Clara understood.
Her father had hidden the evidence beneath his own grave.
Adrian had protected it for eleven years.
Then he handed Clara another document.
“My authorization code was used because I was the only person your father trusted.”
Clara looked at him.
“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because someone was listening.”
She looked around.
Adrian whispered:
“One of the other two is compromised.”
Clara’s heart raced.
“Which one?”
“I don’t know.”
Before he could continue, the building shook.
An explosion.
Clara fell.
Adrian covered her.
Smoke filled the hallway.
Then gunfire erupted.
Luca and Dante appeared.
They pulled them toward an emergency exit.
Outside, Clara looked at Adrian.
“Who knew where we were?”
He shook his head.
“Only us.”
Clara looked at the three men.
Now she knew the truth.
The traitor was one of them.
And the traitor knew everything.
