Accountant Sold By Her Stepbrother—Then 3 Mafia Bosses Claimed Her As Their Own
Chapter 5
Clara spent the next three days reconstructing her father’s financial system.
She worked in a secure office surrounded by documents.
Luca checked on her every few hours.
Dante argued with her about sleeping.
Adrian quietly brought her coffee.
Their personalities couldn’t have been more different.
Luca was controlled.
Dante was explosive.
Adrian was silent.
Yet all three protected her.
Clara didn’t understand why.
One evening, she finally asked.
“Why do you care?”
Dante looked at her.
“About what?”
“Me.”
He laughed.
“You’re valuable.”
“That’s not the real answer.”
His smile disappeared.
“Your father saved my brother.”
Clara blinked.
“Your brother?”
“He died years ago.”
“What happened?”
“Someone tried to kill me.”
“My father intervened.”
Dante looked away.
“He paid the price.”
Clara’s expression softened.
“And you?”
Adrian answered from the doorway.
“We all owe him.”
Clara looked at Luca.
He nodded.
“Your father wasn’t our enemy.”
“Then why did you say he betrayed you?”
“Because we misunderstood.”
She returned to the ledger.
“I found something.”
They gathered around her.
“The $147 million wasn’t one payment.”
She pointed at the records.
“It was divided into 147 separate accounts.”
Dante stared.
“One million each?”
“Exactly.”
“Where?”
“Across seven countries.”
Luca frowned.
“Can you trace them?”
“Yes.”
“How long?”
“Six hours.”
Dante laughed.
“You can trace $147 million in six hours?”
Clara looked at him.
“I’m an accountant.”
Adrian smiled.
“Let her work.”
Six hours later, Clara found the pattern.
Every account contained the same final transaction.
A transfer of exactly one dollar.
The recipient name was different each time.
But the addresses all pointed to one location.
Chicago.
She searched the address.
Her face went pale.
“What?”
Clara whispered:
“It’s my father’s old house.”
Luca frowned.
“Impossible.”
“My father sold it.”
“Who bought it?”
Clara checked the records.
She froze.
“Marcus.”
Dante slammed his hand on the table.
“Your stepbrother?”
Clara nodded.
“He bought the house six years ago.”
Luca looked at her.
“Then he knows.”
Clara stood.
“Not everything.”
“How do you know?”
“Because he never found the ledger.”
She grabbed her coat.
“Let’s go.”
Luca blocked her.
“You’re staying here.”
“No.”
“It’s dangerous.”
“My father’s money is in that house.”
“And that’s exactly why you’re not going.”
Clara stared at him.
“If you want the truth, you need me.”
Luca sighed.
She had him.
“Fine.”
Dante smiled.
“Three bosses and one accountant.”
Clara looked at him.
“No.”
“What?”
“One accountant and three bodyguards.”
Adrian laughed.
For the first time in years, the three men laughed together.
And Clara realized something dangerous.
She was beginning to trust them.
