Accountant Sold By Her Stepbrother—Then 3 Mafia Bosses Claimed Her As Their Own
Chapter 2
Clara didn’t sleep that night.
She was given a bedroom on the second floor of the mansion.
The door wasn’t locked.
That somehow frightened her more.
She sat beside the window and studied the folder Luca had given her.
Her father’s name appeared repeatedly.
Robert Bennett.
Founder of Bennett Logistics.
Dead for eleven years.
Clara had always believed her father was a legitimate businessman who had occasionally worked with questionable clients.
She had never imagined this.
At the bottom of one document was a handwritten note.
The ledger is hidden where the numbers begin.
Clara read it three times.
Then she understood.
The old warehouse.
Her father had taught her accounting there.
When she was twelve, he would sit beside her and explain invoices.
“When you want to find the truth,” he used to say, “follow the first number.”
She hadn’t understood then.
Now she did.
The next morning, Luca entered her room.
“Did you sleep?”
“No.”
“I expected that.”
“Where is my stepbrother?”
“Alive.”
“For now?”
Luca’s expression didn’t change.
“He’s irrelevant.”
Clara stood.
“I want to go home.”
“Eventually.”
“That’s not an answer.”
“No.”
She stared at him.
“Why are you protecting me?”
Luca was silent.
“Because you knew my father?”
“Yes.”
“How?”
“He saved my life.”
Clara didn’t expect that.
“When?”
“Twenty years ago.”
Before he could continue, Dante entered.
“We have a problem.”
Luca turned.
“What?”
“Someone knows she’s here.”
Clara’s heart tightened.
“Who?”
Dante looked at her.
“Your stepbrother.”
Marcus had escaped.
He had taken several company files.
Worse, he had contacted another organization.
Adrian entered behind him.
“He’s trying to sell the information.”
Clara immediately understood.
“If he sells those files, everyone connected to the company could be exposed.”
Dante smiled.
“Exactly.”
She looked at the three men.
“You need me.”
Luca nodded.
“Yes.”
“Then I’ll help.”
Dante raised an eyebrow.
“Just like that?”
“No.”
Clara pointed toward the folder.
“I want protection.”
Adrian smiled for the first time.
“Smart.”
“I want my name cleared.”
“Done.”
“And I want Marcus brought back alive.”
Dante frowned.
“Why?”
“Because I want him to look me in the eyes when he realizes what he did.”
Luca laughed quietly.
“I like her.”
Adrian looked at him.
“You like everyone who threatens you.”
“Not everyone.”
Clara crossed her arms.
“I have one more condition.”
“What?”
“I work alone with the books.”
Dante shook his head.
“Absolutely not.”
Clara stared at him.
“Then you don’t get the ledger.”
Silence.
Luca smiled.
“You heard her.”
Dante sighed.
“Fine.”
Adrian looked at Clara.
“You understand what you’re getting involved in?”
“More than you think.”
She picked up the folder.
“Take me to the warehouse.”
And for the first time, the three men realized something.
They hadn’t acquired a helpless woman.
They had acquired the one person in the city capable of dismantling their entire financial network.
