Her Husband Left Her to Die—Then the Mafia Boss Made Her His Untouchable Queen

Chapter 1

The rain was so heavy that Elena couldn’t see the road anymore.

She could barely breathe.

Blood ran from a cut above her eyebrow and disappeared into the water dripping from her hair. Her hands were shaking as she crawled across the broken asphalt, one palm scraping against loose gravel.

Behind her, the wrecked car burned.

And somewhere inside that burning vehicle was the man who had promised to protect her.

Except he hadn’t.

Daniel had walked away.

Elena could still hear his voice from minutes earlier.

“I’m sorry.”

That was all he’d said.

Not I’ll save you.

Not Hold on.

Just two words before he disappeared into the darkness.

Elena tried to stand.

Her ankle collapsed beneath her.

She fell again.

“Please…”

Her voice was almost lost beneath the thunder.

The headlights of another vehicle appeared through the rain.

A black sedan.

It stopped several yards away.

Two men stepped out.

They wore dark suits.

One raised an umbrella.

The other looked toward the burning car.

Then both turned toward Elena.

A tall man stepped out of the back seat.

He was dressed in a black coat, his expression unreadable.

Everyone in the city knew his name.

Luca Moretti.

The man people whispered about in restaurants.

The man politicians refused to challenge.

The man whose organization controlled half the city’s underground economy.

The mafia boss.

Luca walked toward Elena.

She tried to move away.

“Don’t,” she whispered.

He stopped.

“You’re hurt.”

“My husband…”

Luca glanced toward the burning vehicle.

“He left you.”

Elena’s eyes widened.

“How do you know?”

“Because I saw him.”

She stared at him.

“You were there?”

“I was.”

Luca crouched beside her.

“You’re going to the hospital.”

“No.”

His eyebrow lifted.

“He’ll come back.”

Luca looked at her for several seconds.

“He won’t.”

Something inside Elena broke.

She began crying.

Not loudly.

Just silent tears mixing with rain.

Luca removed his coat and wrapped it around her shoulders.

Then he looked at his men.

“Call the ambulance.”

One of them hesitated.

“Boss, we can’t—”

Luca’s expression changed.

“Call.”

The man immediately obeyed.

Elena looked up at Luca.

“Why are you helping me?”

He stared at her.

“Because someone should have.”

Then he picked her up.

And as the ambulance approached, Luca Moretti made a decision that would change both their lives.

From that moment forward, anyone who wanted to hurt Elena would have to go through him first.
