The Single Dad Adopted a Homeless Girl—15 Years Later She Walked Into Court and Saved His Empire
Chapter 10
Harris arrived at an empty conference room.
Lily sat alone.
“You wanted to speak?”
“Yes.”
“About the court case?”
“Yes.”
Harris smiled.
“You should cooperate.”
“With Cross?”
“With reality.”
Lily slid a document across the table.
“Did you create these accounts?”
Harris looked at them.
“No.”
“You’re sure?”
“Absolutely.”
She placed another document beside it.
“These transactions were authorized from your computer.”
Harris’s expression barely changed.
“Could have been anyone.”
“Your password was used.”
“My password was stolen.”
Lily nodded.
“Of course.”
Harris relaxed.
Then she placed a photograph on the table.
It showed him entering a private bank.
The date matched one of the fraudulent transfers.
He frowned.
“Where did you get that?”
Lily smiled.
“Does it matter?”
He stood.
“You’re trying to threaten me.”
“No.”
She opened her phone.
“I want to understand.”
Harris leaned closer.
“You’re wasting your time.”
“Why did you kill Michael?”
His face changed.
Only for a fraction of a second.
But Lily saw it.
“You’re insane.”
“Why did you help Adrian Cross?”
“No.”
“Why did you use my identity?”
Harris stepped backward.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Then explain why your fingerprints were found on my adoption file.”
Silence.
Harris stared at her.
Lily continued.
“You didn’t just want the company.”
He said nothing.
“You wanted me.”
Harris’s voice dropped.
“Your mother should have kept her mouth shut.”
Lily’s heart stopped.
The confession was out.
She had her answer.
But Harris suddenly realized what he had said.
His face hardened.
“You recorded this.”
Lily stood.
“Yes.”
He lunged for the phone.
Lily stepped away.
The door opened.
Federal agents entered.
Harris froze.
Lily had never felt so calm.
“You’re under arrest.”
Harris looked at her.
“You have no idea what you’ve done.”
Lily shook her head.
“I know exactly what I did.”
He was taken away.
But Adrian Cross was still free.
And the evidence against him was not enough.
Lily returned to court.
The judge was waiting.
Cross’s attorney argued that Harris had acted alone.
Lily stood.
“Your Honor, that’s not true.”
She opened the leather folder.
“I have proof that Mr. Cross ordered the transfers.”
Cross’s expression finally changed.
Lily placed the documents on the evidence table.
“Bank records.”
Another.
“Recorded communications.”
Another.
“Witness testimony.”
Then she placed one final document down.
“A payment made to Harris three days before Michael Grant died.”
The courtroom erupted.
Cross stood.
“This is fabricated!”
Lily looked at him.
“No.”
She pointed toward the document.
“You signed it.”
