The Echoes of Obsidian Ridge

CHAPTER 15:

Three months later, a clear, warm sun rose over a quiet coastal cottage nestled along the Oregon shoreline. The ocean waves crashed gently against the rocky beach below, carrying a cool breeze that rustled the wild grass in the garden.

The downfall of The Citadel Consortium had dominated international headlines for weeks. Senator Marcus Vance and over forty high-ranking corporate and political co-conspirators were currently awaiting trial under federal indictment. Arthur and Evelyn Sterling, granted full immunity for their cooperation in dismantling the syndicate, were living under federal witness protection in a secure location nearby.

On the cottage porch, Julian sat on a wooden bench with an acoustic guitar across his lap. His hands moved effortlessly over the fretboard, playing a warm, peaceful melody devoid of the tension that had plagued his music for years.

Maya walked out from the house, carrying two steaming mugs of coffee. She set one on the small wooden table beside him and placed a completed book manuscript next to it. The title page read: The Echoes of Obsidian Ridge: A True Story.

Julian stopped playing, looking up at her with a bright, genuine smile. “Is that the final draft?”

“Sent to the publisher ten minutes ago,” Maya said, taking a seat beside him and leaning her head comfortably against his shoulder.

Julian wrapped an arm around her, resting his cheek against her hair as they watched the morning sun scatter golden light across the endless blue horizon.

“No more shadows?” he asked softly.

Maya smiled, taking a sip of her coffee as the warmth of the sun settled over them. “No more shadows. Just us.”
