The Billionaire Hotel Owner Was Forced to Marry a Crime Boss’s Daughter — Then His Ex Came Back,….
Chapter 5
Adrian couldn’t sleep.
His father had died when Adrian was twenty-three.
He remembered him as a strict but honorable businessman.
The photograph changed nothing.
And everything.
“Why would my father know Victor?”
Maya shook her head.
“I don’t know.”
“Where did you get this?”
“Someone sent it anonymously.”
Elena entered the room.
She saw the photograph.
Her expression changed.
“You’ve seen it before.”
Adrian noticed.
“Elena?”
She hesitated.
“My father has one.”
“What?”
“The same photograph.”
Adrian stared at her.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I didn’t know what it meant.”
Maya folded her arms.
“That isn’t the only thing your father and Victor shared.”
Adrian looked at her.
“What else?”
Maya opened her travel bag.
She removed a small notebook.
“I’ve been investigating financial networks connected to Victor.”
Adrian frowned.
“Why?”
“Because I found something while traveling.”
“What?”
“I don’t know yet.”
Elena looked at Maya.
“You came back because of this.”
“Yes.”
Adrian felt betrayed.
“You knew something was happening and still came here.”
“I came because I needed answers.”
“And now?”
Maya looked at him.
“Now I think you’re in danger.”
Adrian laughed.
“I’m married to a crime boss’s daughter. I’ve already noticed.”
Elena didn’t smile.
“Adrian.”
He looked at her.
“My father doesn’t force people to marry without a reason.”
Silence filled the room.
And for the first time, Adrian wondered whether the destroyed painting had ever been the real reason for their marriage.
