The Billionaire CEO Slipped “HELP” on a Napkin—Then a Single Dad at Table 15 Saw It

Chapter 3

Daniel drove without knowing where he was going.

Victoria sat in the passenger seat.

Emma was in the back.

The old minivan felt painfully small compared with the luxury cars Victoria was accustomed to.

But she didn’t complain.

She kept looking through the rear window.

“They’re following us,” she said.

Daniel checked the mirror.

A black SUV appeared three cars behind them.

“You sure?”

“Yes.”

“How?”

“Because I’ve been followed for three days.”

Daniel’s hands tightened around the steering wheel.

“Why didn’t you go to the police?”

“I did.”

“And?”

“They told me there was no evidence.”

Daniel glanced at her.

“How convenient.”

Victoria looked at him.

“I know how it sounds.”

“It sounds like you’re involved in something much bigger than a restaurant.”

“I am.”

She reached into her purse.

She pulled out a small flash drive.

“This contains financial records.”

Daniel looked at it.

“What records?”

“Payments made through shell companies.”

“To whom?”

“Politicians. Judges. Corporate executives. People who have been protecting a criminal organization for years.”

Daniel’s expression changed.

“And your company?”

“My father built it.”

Victoria paused.

“After he died, I took over.”

“What does this have to do with you?”

Victoria looked down.

“I found evidence that someone inside my company has been using it to move billions of dollars.”

Daniel was silent.

“Who?”

“I don’t know.”

“But they know you found out.”

“Yes.”

The SUV behind them accelerated.

Daniel changed lanes.

It followed.

Emma looked up.

“Dad?”

Daniel forced his voice to stay calm.

“Everything’s okay.”

Victoria turned around.

“I’m sorry.”

“For what?”

“For putting your daughter in danger.”

Daniel’s eyes hardened.

“You did.”

“I know.”

“Then tell me everything.”

Victoria nodded.

She explained that three days earlier she had discovered unauthorized transfers from one of her company’s oldest accounts.

The transactions were linked to a dormant subsidiary.

That subsidiary had been created twenty-two years ago.

It had never officially conducted business.

Yet billions had passed through it.

She began investigating.

Then her security team started disappearing.

One employee was found dead.

Another vanished.

Then Victoria received a message.

Sign the company away or your family pays the price.

Daniel frowned.

“Your family?”

“My younger brother.”

“You have a brother?”

“Yes.”

“Where is he?”

“I don’t know.”

The SUV was getting closer.

Daniel turned sharply onto a narrow side street.

The SUV followed.

He saw a parking garage.

He drove inside.

They went up one level.

Then another.

Finally Daniel killed the lights.

The SUV entered.

It slowly moved through the garage.

Daniel held his breath.

Emma whispered:

“Dad?”

Daniel placed a finger against his lips.

The SUV passed them.

Daniel waited.

Then it disappeared.

Victoria exhaled.

“We lost them.”

Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

“What?”

“They wanted us to think that.”

He pointed toward the exit.

A second black vehicle was waiting outside.

Victoria stared.

“They knew where we’d go.”

Daniel realized something terrifying.

Someone had access to Victoria’s location.

And perhaps his too.

His phone vibrated.

A message appeared.

TABLE 15 WAS A MISTAKE. YOU SHOULD HAVE WALKED AWAY.

Daniel stared at the screen.

Victoria read it.

Her face went pale.

“How did they know about Table 15?”

Daniel slowly looked at her.

“That’s what I’m wondering.”
