The Billionaire CEO Slipped “HELP” on a Napkin—Then a Single Dad at Table 15 Saw It
Chapter 8
They reached the hospital shortly after noon.
Daniel had no idea what he was looking for.
The hospital had renovated several times since Emma’s birth.
But Daniel remembered the room.
Fourth floor.
Room 418.
He walked down the hallway.
Memories came rushing back.
Emily laughing.
Holding newborn Emma.
Crying.
Whispering that she had never been happier.
Daniel stopped outside the room.
A nurse approached.
“Can I help you?”
Daniel explained.
The nurse checked old records.
Then shook her head.
“That room doesn’t exist anymore.”
Daniel’s heart sank.
Victoria noticed a plaque on the wall.
It commemorated the hospital’s old maternity wing.
Daniel stared at it.
Then noticed something.
A small lighthouse symbol.
The same symbol appeared on the napkin.
“That’s it.”
Behind the plaque was a metal panel.
The silver key opened it.
Inside was a small envelope.
Daniel removed it.
The envelope contained a memory card.
And a photograph.
Emily.
Holding baby Emma.
On the back:
She is the reason I never told you.
Daniel inserted the memory card into his phone.
A video began.
Emily appeared.
She looked younger.
Healthy.
Daniel couldn’t breathe.
“If you’re seeing this, then the people I feared finally found you.”
She explained the entire truth.
The criminal network had tried to force Thomas to surrender control of his company.
Thomas refused.
Daniel’s father helped him expose the organization.
Emily became involved after discovering that the network had infiltrated the hospital where Emma was born.
They had tried to use Daniel’s family as leverage.
Emily stopped them.
But she knew the danger would return.
She had hidden evidence in several places.
The final archive was beneath Sterling headquarters.
But it couldn’t be opened without the silver key.
Daniel looked at Victoria.
She whispered:
“The archive.”
Emily continued.
“The person who controls the archive can expose everyone.”
Then her expression changed.
“There is one person you cannot trust.”
A name appeared.
Not Richard.
Not Michael.
Not Thomas.
Someone else.
Victoria stared.
“No.”
Daniel asked:
“Who?”
Victoria couldn’t answer.
The video displayed the name of the person who had been secretly funding the network.
Victoria’s own mother.
But her mother had supposedly died twenty years ago.
Michael stepped back.
“That’s impossible.”
Daniel stared at the screen.
Emily’s final words were:
She never died.
The video ended.
Silence filled the room.
Victoria’s phone rang.
She answered.
A woman’s voice whispered:
“Hello, daughter.”
Victoria dropped the phone.
Her face was completely white.
Daniel looked at her.
“Your mother?”
Victoria nodded.
Then the lights in the hospital hallway went out.
Emergency alarms began ringing.
Someone had locked down the building.
And a voice came over the intercom.
“Victoria Sterling, your family has been waiting for you.”
