The Billionaire CEO Slipped “HELP” on a Napkin—Then a Single Dad at Table 15 Saw It
Chapter 6
Thomas Sterling’s face filled the screen.
He looked older than the photographs.
His hair was completely gray.
His eyes were tired.
But Victoria recognized him immediately.
“Where are you?”
Thomas didn’t answer.
Instead, he said:
“Daniel, your father was the only person I trusted completely.”
Daniel stared at the screen.
“My father never told me about you.”
“He couldn’t.”
“Why?”
“Because I asked him to keep you safe.”
Daniel shook his head.
“My father died believing he had nothing to do with this.”
Thomas looked down.
“He died protecting you.”
Daniel felt anger rising.
“Then why didn’t anyone tell me?”
“Because the people behind this organization would have killed you.”
Victoria stepped forward.
“Who are they?”
Thomas looked at her.
“The people who have controlled your company for twenty-two years.”
Richard’s voice interrupted.
“Your father is lying.”
Thomas ignored him.
“The dormant subsidiary wasn’t created to steal money.”
Daniel listened carefully.
“It was created to hide evidence.”
Thomas explained that he had discovered a network operating inside major corporations.
The network used legitimate businesses to hide illegal transactions.
His company had been infiltrated.
He created the subsidiary to secretly track the money.
But someone betrayed him.
Richard.
Richard had taken control of the system.
Thomas disappeared to protect his children.
Daniel’s father helped him.
Then Daniel’s father died.
Thomas remained hidden.
“Why come back now?”
Daniel asked.
“Because the evidence is finally complete.”
Thomas explained that Victoria’s investigation had activated the final stage.
The financial records she discovered were connected to an encrypted archive.
The archive contained the names of everyone involved.
But it required one final key.
Daniel.
He looked confused.
“Why me?”
Thomas said:
“Your father left the key with you.”
“I don’t have anything.”
Thomas looked at the screen.
“You do.”
Daniel thought about his belongings.
Nothing made sense.
Then he remembered his late wife’s old jewelry box.
She had always told him never to throw away a particular silver key.
He had kept it for years without knowing why.
Daniel pulled out his wallet.
Inside was a photograph of his wife.
On the back was a tiny silver key.
Victoria stared.
“That’s it.”
Michael shook his head.
“No.”
Daniel looked at him.
“What?”
Michael’s face changed.
“That key belonged to our father.”
Silence.
Daniel stared at the key.
“My father gave this to my wife?”
Thomas spoke.
“Yes.”
Daniel suddenly understood.
His father had trusted Emily.
Emily had kept the key hidden.
She had died without telling him.
Not because she didn’t trust him.
Because she wanted to protect him.
Daniel’s eyes filled with tears.
Then Richard appeared behind them.
He had a gun.
“Enough.”
Everyone froze.
Richard pointed toward Daniel.
“Give me the key.”
Daniel closed his hand around it.
“No.”
Richard smiled.
“You have no idea what that key opens.”
Thomas’s voice came through the speaker.
“Daniel.”
Daniel looked up.
“Do not give it to him.”
Richard fired.
The bullet struck the monitor.
The screen went black.
And the warehouse descended into darkness again.
