Single Dad Resigned in Silence…Then His CEO Arrived at Midnight With a Shocking Offer

Chapter 4

Daniel spent the next morning researching the warehouse.

Sarah had worked as a freelance graphic designer.

She had gone to the warehouse that night because a client needed documents printed.

That was what Daniel had always believed.

The accident occurred in the parking lot.

A delivery vehicle had struck her car.

The investigation ruled it accidental.

But now he remembered something.

Sarah had called him twenty minutes before the accident.

She sounded frightened.

He had assumed she was upset about work.

He had never asked why.

That realization devastated him.

Daniel sat in Victoria’s office.

“I need the original security footage.”

“We don’t have it.”

“Then find it.”

“I am.”

“What about backups?”

“None.”

“Then someone destroyed them.”

“Yes.”

He looked at her.

“You knew this before you came to me.”

“I suspected.”

“Why didn’t you tell me last night?”

“Because I didn’t want to reopen your grief without proof.”

Daniel stared out the window.

“It’s already open.”

Victoria was quiet.

Then she said:

“I’ll help you find out what happened.”

Daniel nodded.

They began with the warehouse records.

They discovered an employee had accessed the security system that night.

A man named Michael Grant.

Former security supervisor.

He now lived three states away.

Daniel and Victoria traveled there.

Michael agreed to meet them.

He looked terrified.

“You shouldn’t have come.”

Daniel sat across from him.

“Why?”

Michael looked at Victoria.

“Because your company never wanted the truth.”

Victoria’s jaw tightened.

“My company?”

“Your father’s company.”

“What did you see?”

Michael stared at Daniel.

“The woman.”

“Sarah?”

“Yes.”

“What happened?”

“She wasn’t in an accident.”

Daniel stopped breathing.

Michael continued.

“Someone was chasing her.”

“Who?”

“I couldn’t see.”

“Then why didn’t you report it?”

“I tried.”

“What happened?”

Michael swallowed.

“Your father came to the warehouse.”

Victoria went still.

“My father?”

“Yes.”

“What did he do?”

“He told me to delete the footage.”

Daniel stood.

“Why?”

Michael looked down.

“Because someone had threatened him.”

“Who?”

“I don’t know.”

Daniel’s voice shook.

“You know something.”

Michael reached into a drawer.

He pulled out an old USB drive.

“I kept a backup.”

Victoria stared.

“You said there were none.”

“I lied.”

Daniel took it.

“What’s on it?”

“Part of the footage.”

“Why keep it?”

“Because I knew one day someone would ask.”

Back at the hotel, they opened the files.

The video was damaged.

But enough remained.

Sarah’s car entered the parking lot.

A second vehicle followed.

A man approached her.

They argued.

Then Sarah ran.

The video ended.

Daniel stared at the screen.

“Who is that?”

The face was obscured.

But the vehicle was visible.

Victoria recognized it.

“That car belonged to my father.”

Daniel looked at her.

Silence.

“He was there.”

“Yes.”

“Did he kill Sarah?”

“I don’t know.”

“Then find out.”

Victoria nodded.

She looked at the screen.

For the first time, Daniel saw fear in the CEO’s eyes.

Not fear of the truth.

Fear of what the truth might say about her own family.
