Single Dad Applied as a Janitor — Then the Billionaire CEO Recognized His Name
Chapter 10
Victor’s voice echoed through the vault.
“You should have listened when I warned you.”
Evelyn grabbed the door handle.
“Open it.”
Victor laughed.
“Not yet.”
Daniel looked at the security panel.
“He’s controlling the building.”
“Can we override it?”
“Maybe.”
The screen on the wall turned on.
Victor appeared.
Behind him stood Jonathan Sterling.
Alive.
Evelyn’s face went white.
“Uncle.”
Jonathan smiled.
“You always were stubborn.”
She stared.
“You let me believe you were dead.”
“I had to.”
“Why?”
“Because Robert was going to expose us.”
Daniel looked at Victor.
“And my father?”
Victor answered calmly.
“Thomas chose badly.”
“You killed him.”
“He refused to cooperate.”
Daniel clenched his fists.
Jonathan interrupted.
“Thomas should have understood.”
“What?”
“Money creates obligations.”
Daniel laughed bitterly.
“You killed people for money.”
“No.”
Jonathan smiled.
“We killed people for control.”
That sentence silenced the room.
Victor continued.
“The company belongs to us.”
“No,” Evelyn said.
“It never did.”
She pointed toward the vault camera.
“My father’s recording proves otherwise.”
Jonathan laughed.
“Recordings can disappear.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“Not this one.”
Victor’s smile faded.
Mark had secretly connected the vault system to an external server.
Everything was being copied.
Victor realized too late.
“Stop him.”
Jonathan looked away.
Federal agents entered the building.
The vault doors opened.
Victor and Jonathan were surrounded.
Evelyn walked out first.
Daniel followed.
For the first time, Victor looked afraid.
“You think this ends here?”
Daniel looked at him.
“It does.”
Victor smiled.
“You still don’t know everything.”
Evelyn frowned.
“What else?”
Victor looked at Daniel.
“Your father didn’t leave you $180 million.”
Daniel’s expression changed.
“What?”
“He left you more.”
Victor was taken away.
But the statement haunted Daniel.
Later, lawyers confirmed it.
Thomas Brooks had held controlling interests in several logistics properties.
The total value exceeded $300 million.
Assets Victor had never been able to fully seize.
Daniel was now legally one of the wealthiest people in the country.
But he didn’t care.
He went straight home.
Lily ran into his arms.
“Daddy!”
He picked her up.
“You okay?”
“Yes.”
“Where’s Grandma?”
“In the kitchen.”
Daniel smiled.
He looked at his daughter.
“I got a job.”
She laughed.
“The janitor job?”
He smiled.
“Not exactly.”
Lily grinned.
“Are you a boss now?”
Daniel looked over her shoulder.
Evelyn stood in the doorway.
“Something like that.”
Lily looked at her.
“Are you my daddy’s boss?”
Evelyn smiled.
“Not anymore.”
Daniel laughed.
“Good answer.”
That night, after Lily went to bed, Daniel and Evelyn sat outside.
“You could leave,” she said.
“Where would I go?”
“Anywhere.”
He looked at her.
“I don’t want anywhere.”
She smiled.
“You have more money than you’ll ever need.”
“I know.”
“What are you going to do?”
He thought.
“Build something useful.”
“Like what?”
“A company that doesn’t forget the people who keep it running.”
Evelyn nodded.
“I’d like that.”
Daniel looked at her.
“And you?”
She smiled.
“I’d like to help.”
Neither mentioned what was growing between them.
Not yet.
But both knew.
