She Walked Past the Mafia Boss Without Looking Back, and His Next Order Shocked Everyone
Chapter 12
Matteo grabbed Elena’s hand.
They raced toward the chest.
Caruso fired.
The bullet struck the wooden railing.
Matteo pulled Elena down.
His mother and Gabriel returned fire.
The dock became chaos.
Elena reached the chest.
The lock was already broken.
Inside were account books.
Letters.
Maps.
And a sealed confession.
She opened it.
The first sentence named Caruso.
The second named every official he had bribed.
The third revealed the truth about Marco’s death.
Caruso had ordered it.
Elena’s eyes filled with tears.
Her father had not abandoned her.
He had died protecting the evidence.
She looked at Matteo.
“He killed my father.”
Matteo nodded.
“I know.”
Caruso reached them.
He grabbed Elena.
“Give me the papers.”
“No.”
He raised his pistol.
Matteo stepped forward.
“Take me instead.”
Caruso smiled.
“You would trade yourself?”
“For her.”
Caruso laughed.
“That’s why you are weak.”
Matteo looked at him.
“No.”
He glanced toward Elena.
“That’s why I’m stronger than you.”
A gunshot cracked.
Caruso fell.
But not from Matteo’s pistol.
Gabriel stood behind him.
The dock went silent.
Caruso lay wounded.
The remaining guards dropped their weapons.
The fire was extinguished before it reached the final ship.
By sunrise, Caruso was in custody.
The conspiracy was over.
But Elena’s story was not.
Because when she returned to the Belladonna house, she found something waiting for her.
A letter.
From Matteo.
