The new owners were renovating it.

Christmas mornings.
Family vacations.
There was sadness.

She looked at one photograph for a long time.
Daniel standing behind her, laughing.

She took the album.
At home, she showed it to Sophie.
“Do you ever miss that house?”
Sophie asked.
“Sometimes.”
“Do you miss Dad and Mom together?”
Claire smiled.
“Sometimes.”
Sophie nodded.
“Do you regret leaving?”
Claire thought.
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because leaving gave all of us a chance to become different people.”
Sophie smiled.
“I like Dad now.”
“I do too.”
“He seems happier.”
“I think he is.”
“Would you ever go back?”
Claire looked at her.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because forgiveness doesn’t mean returning to the same place.”
Sophie nodded.
She understood.
Claire closed the album.
