She Asked Me to Be Her Fake Fiancé at Her Ex’s Wedding… Then Kissed Me in Front of Everyone
Chapter 13
Olivia eventually became the head of the family foundation.
She funded small businesses.
Medical programs.
Scholarships.
Women’s shelters.
She changed the meaning of the trust.
It had once been a weapon.
Now it became protection.
Daniel built a successful company.
He and Madison eventually became friends.
Her mother found peace.
And Ethan?
I stayed exactly where I had promised.
Beside Olivia.
One evening, we returned to the same restaurant where Daniel had once broken her heart.
She looked around.
“I haven’t been here in years.”
“Neither have I.”
She smiled.
“Do you remember that night?”
“Yes.”
“You picked me up from the sidewalk.”
“I did.”
“You told me I’d find someone better.”
“I did.”
She looked at me.
“You were wrong.”
I laughed.
“Very.”
“You weren’t better.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“No?”
She smiled.
“You were different.”
She took my hand.
“You stayed.”
I kissed her.
“That was the point.”
Our daughter ran toward us.
“Mom!”
Olivia turned.
“What?”
“Dad said we’re leaving.”
I looked at her.
“Did I?”
She smiled.
“Apparently.”
We started walking.
Then Olivia stopped.
“Wait.”
“What?”
She looked back at the restaurant.
“I think I finally understand.”
“What?”
“The breakup.”
“What about it?”
“If Daniel hadn’t left me…”
I smiled.
“I know.”
“I might never have gone to your apartment.”
I nodded.
“I know.”
“I might never have asked you to pretend.”
“No.”
“And I might never have kissed you.”
I looked at her.
“You’re making me sad.”
She laughed.
“Why?”
“Because I’m glad it happened.”
She smiled.
“Me too.”
Then she leaned closer.
“Sometimes the worst night of your life is just the night before everything changes.”
I smiled.
“That’s a good line.”
“Write it down.”
“I will.”
