Rich Girl Mocks The Single Dad Waiter’s English—Then Her Father Calls Him “Boss”
Chapter 11
Amelia knew exactly what she had to do.
The vault’s emergency exit led to the hotel’s old ballroom.
She ran.
Daniel followed.
Victor’s men were behind them.
Ethan stayed with Richard.
Amelia reached the main office.
She opened the ledger.
There were names everywhere.
Payments.
Dates.
Transfers.
But she noticed something strange.
Several pages contained handwritten initials.
One set belonged to Victor.
Another to her father.
And a third to someone else.
D.B.
Daniel Brooks.
She froze.
Could Victor be right?
Had Daniel known more than he admitted?
She turned.
He was standing in the doorway.
“Amelia.”
“Did you know?”
“Know what?”
“That your initials are here.”
He walked closer.
“Yes.”
Her heart dropped.
“You knew.”
“I knew my father was part of the system.”
“And?”
“I didn’t know this ledger existed.”
She held it up.
“You signed these pages.”
He stared.
Then took the book.
The handwriting wasn’t his.
Someone had forged his initials.
He recognized the pattern.
“Victor.”
“How do you know?”
“Because he used my old signature.”
He showed her.
The pressure marks were different.
Amelia breathed again.
“I thought…”
“I know.”
She looked at him.
“I need to trust you.”
“You do.”
“No.”
She shook her head.
“I want to.”
Daniel softened.
“That matters.”
They stepped closer.
For a moment, the chaos outside disappeared.
Then Daniel said,
“I need to tell you something.”
“What?”
“I started this investigation because I didn’t trust your family.”
“I know.”
“But I stayed because of you.”
Her heart skipped.
“You stayed because of me?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
He looked at her.
“Because you changed.”
She smiled.
“I hope that’s good.”
“It is.”
He touched her hand.
“You stopped looking down on people.”
“I stopped looking down on you.”
“That’s a start.”
She laughed.
Then he added,
“You made me realize I didn’t want to hide anymore.”
She stared.
“You want to stop being a waiter?”
“No.”
“Then what?”
“I want to stop pretending that I don’t care.”
Her breath caught.
“About what?”
“You.”
They leaned toward each other.
Then the fire alarm sounded.
They jumped apart.
Victor had set the hotel kitchens on fire.
Smoke filled the corridor.
“Go!”
Daniel grabbed Amelia’s hand.
They ran.
At the front entrance, police arrived.
Victor was arrested.
But he wasn’t alone.
Three board members were taken into custody.
The CFO confessed.
Mercer Capital’s accounts were frozen.
The company had survived.
But the hardest part was still waiting.
The legal battle over the trust.
Amelia sat outside the hotel.
Daniel joined her.
“You okay?”
“No.”
“Fair.”
She looked at him.
“I thought my father had betrayed me.”
“He didn’t.”
“I thought you had lied.”
“I did.”
She stared.
“What?”
“I lied about being just a waiter.”
“That wasn’t the lie I meant.”
He smiled.
She punched his shoulder lightly.
“You’re impossible.”
“I’ve been told.”
She laughed.
Then she rested her head against him.
For a few seconds, neither spoke.
Finally she whispered,
“You know what I hate?”
“What?”
“That you were right.”
“About what?”
“People treated me differently because I was rich.”
He nodded.
“They did.”
“And I did it too.”
“Yes.”
She sighed.
“I don’t want to be that person anymore.”
Daniel looked at her.
“You aren’t.”
“How do you know?”
“Because you don’t ask that question anymore.”
She looked into his eyes.
Then kissed him.
It was brief.
Soft.
Unexpected.
He smiled.
“That wasn’t very professional.”
“I don’t work for you.”
“You’re right.”
“Good.”
He laughed.
But then his phone rang.
He answered.
His expression changed.
“What?”
He listened.
Then looked at Amelia.
“The trust has been challenged.”
“By who?”
He said the name.
“Your brother.”
Amelia froze.
“Ethan?”
