Rich Girl Mocks The Single Dad Waiter’s English—Then Her Father Calls Him “Boss”
Chapter 13
Six months later, Amelia no longer looked like the woman who had walked into the restaurant.
She still dressed well.
Still traveled.
Still had money.
But she spoke differently.
She asked questions.
She listened.
She learned people’s names.
And once a week, she served tables.
At first, employees were terrified.
Then confused.
Then amused.
Because Amelia was terrible at carrying trays.
Daniel watched from behind the counter.
“You’re holding that wrong.”
She frowned.
“I can do it.”
The tray tilted.
He caught it.
“Clearly.”
She glared.
“I hate you.”
“No, you don’t.”
She smiled.
“No.”
She didn’t.
That afternoon, Emma came into the restaurant after school.
“Daddy.”
Daniel hugged her.
“How was school?”
“Good.”
She looked at Amelia.
“You’re working.”
“Yes.”
“Are you good at it?”
“No.”
Amelia laughed.
Emma nodded.
“I knew it.”
Daniel smiled.
“Honesty runs in the family.”
Emma sat at the counter.
“Can I ask you something?”
Amelia nodded.
“Why were you mean to Daddy?”
Amelia looked at Daniel.
“I didn’t know him.”
“But you could tell he was nice.”
“I wasn’t smart enough.”
Emma thought.
“Are you smart now?”
Amelia smiled.
“Much smarter.”
“Good.”
Emma nodded seriously.
Then went to do her homework.
Daniel looked at Amelia.
“She approves.”
“I’m relieved.”
He leaned closer.
“I have something to tell you.”
“What?”
“I met with your father.”
“And?”
“He wants you to become chairwoman.”
She blinked.
“Why?”
“Because he thinks you’ve changed.”
She smiled.
“You think so?”
“Yes.”
“Would you work with me?”
“I already do.”
“As partners?”
He looked at her.
“Partners.”
She took his hand.
Then she hesitated.
“There’s one thing.”
“What?”
“I don’t want to marry you because everyone thinks it makes sense.”
He smiled.
“Good.”
“I want it because I choose you.”
His expression softened.
“I’d like that.”
She stared.
“That’s it?”
“What else should I say?”
“You could make a speech.”
“I don’t make speeches.”
“You’re terrible.”
“Probably.”
She laughed.
Then he reached into his pocket.
A ring.
Simple.
Elegant.
Not a billion-dollar diamond.
Nothing flashy.
Just right.
He didn’t kneel.
He simply placed it on the counter.
“I wasn’t going to ask you until you were sure.”
“I am.”
“When?”
“Now.”
He smiled.
“Then marry me.”
She laughed through tears.
“That isn’t romantic.”
“I own a restaurant.”
She laughed harder.
“You’re impossible.”
“Is that a yes?”
She put her hand over the ring.
“Yes.”
He kissed her.
The employees around them applauded.
Emma clapped too.
“Finally.”
Daniel looked at his daughter.
“You knew?”
“Yes.”
Amelia laughed.
The moment felt almost too perfect.
Then Richard walked in.
He looked at them.
“Am I interrupting?”
“Yes,” Daniel said.
Richard smiled.
“Good.”
He hugged Amelia.
“I’ve never seen you happier.”
She looked at him.
“I’ve never felt more myself.”
Richard glanced at Daniel.
Then said the word that had changed everything in the first place.
“Boss.”
Daniel laughed.
Amelia shook her head.
“Still?”
Richard smiled.
“Always.”
