Rich Girl Mocks The Single Dad Waiter’s English—Then Her Father Calls Him “Boss”
Chapter 6
The next morning, Richard called an emergency executive meeting.
Everyone was there.
Except the CFO.
Except Ethan.
Except two senior directors.
Daniel stood at the head of the table.
No waiter uniform.
Dark suit.
No disguise.
Amelia sat near the wall.
For the first time, she watched him command a room.
“Someone has been stealing from Bennett Hospitality.”
Several executives lowered their eyes.
Daniel continued.
“We know the money is being routed through Mercer Capital.”
A director interrupted.
“That’s impossible.”
Daniel looked at him.
“Why?”
“Because Mercer doesn’t operate that way.”
“How do you know?”
The man hesitated.
Daniel stared.
“Exactly.”
Amelia watched.
The confident man from the restaurant had vanished.
This was the real Daniel Brooks.
Sharp.
Controlled.
Dangerous when challenged.
He looked at the CFO’s empty chair.
“Find him.”
Security moved.
Then the conference room doors opened.
Ethan Bennett walked in.
Amelia stood.
“Ethan?”
Her brother looked confused.
“What is happening?”
Daniel looked at him.
“Where were you?”
“At home.”
“Can anyone confirm?”
Ethan frowned.
“My wife.”
“She’s out of town.”
Ethan’s face changed.
“What is this about?”
Daniel placed a document on the table.
“Someone used your identity.”
Ethan stared.
Then looked at Amelia.
“You believed it?”
She swallowed.
“I didn’t know.”
Ethan sat.
“Neither did I.”
Richard stepped forward.
“I’m sorry.”
Ethan looked at his father.
“For what?”
“For not trusting you.”
Ethan laughed bitterly.
“That’s what this family does.”
The room went quiet.
Daniel looked at Ethan.
“Do you know the name Mercer Capital?”
“Yes.”
“How?”
“They approached me last year.”
“Why?”
“To buy my shares.”
“Did you accept?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because they threatened Amelia.”
She froze.
“They threatened me?”
Ethan nodded.
“They said if I refused, they’d ruin my sister.”
Amelia stared at him.
“You never told me.”
“I didn’t want you involved.”
She almost laughed.
“Everyone keeps saying that.”
Daniel looked between them.
Then asked Ethan,
“Who represented Mercer?”
“An attorney.”
“Name?”
Ethan thought.
“Victor Hale.”
Daniel’s expression changed.
“Victor.”
Richard looked alarmed.
“You know him?”
Daniel nodded.
“Too well.”
“Who is he?”
Daniel looked at Amelia.
“He used to work for me.”
She frowned.
“Then why is he helping Mercer?”
“Because Mercer is his company.”
Silence.
Daniel had been searching the wrong level.
Victor wasn’t an outside investor.
He had built Mercer after leaving Daniel’s company.
He knew every weakness.
Every supplier.
Every executive.
Every family secret.
Amelia looked at Daniel.
“And now?”
“Now he wants control.”
“How?”
“By forcing the family to turn against each other.”
Daniel pulled up another document.
A stock transfer.
A debt agreement.
A property claim.
All designed to make the Bennett family fight.
Amelia looked around.
“How many people are involved?”
Daniel answered quietly.
“More than I thought.”
Then the door opened.
Victor Hale walked in.
Elegant.
Smiling.
Perfectly calm.
“Am I late?”
Daniel looked at him.
“No.”
Victor smiled.
“I came to help.”
Amelia frowned.
“Help with what?”
Victor looked at her.
“Your father’s company.”
Then he turned to Daniel.
“Boss.”
Amelia froze.
Not again.
Victor had called him boss too.
But this time there was something different in his smile.
Respect.
And fear.
Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
“Sit down.”
Victor did.
Amelia stared.
There was more to their history than she knew.
And she suddenly realized something.
The man who had mocked Daniel might be the only person in the room who didn’t yet understand just how much power he actually held.
