Paralyzed Millionaire Was Abandoned at the Altar — Then He Looked at the Maid and Said…
Chapter 8
Ethan moved Grace and Noah to a secure property outside the city.
He hired additional security.
Closed access to the estate.
And began removing Richard’s allies from the company.
Grace watched all of it.
“You’re destroying your own family.”
Ethan shook his head.
“They destroyed themselves.”
“You’re not worried about the business?”
“I am.”
“But?”
“I’d rather lose the company than lose you.”
Grace looked at him.
“You really mean that.”
“Yes.”
One afternoon, Grace discovered another hidden file.
It was inside an old cabinet.
Her own handwriting appeared on the envelope.
She stared.
“What is this?”
Ethan looked confused.
“Open it.”
Inside was a letter she had written five years earlier.
It was addressed to her brother.
Noah,
If something happens to you, I will protect the truth.
Grace began crying.
She had forgotten about the letter.
There was one more page.
The person behind the safety violations has access to the board.
Ethan read it.
“Who did you send this to?”
“No one.”
“Then why was it here?”
Grace looked toward the house.
Someone had taken her old letter.
And placed it inside the Caldwell estate.
Why?
As a warning?
Or proof?
They traced the paper.
The printer belonged to Richard’s office.
Ethan called the police.
They arrived that evening.
But Richard was gone.
His office had been emptied.
Every computer.
Every document.
Every file.
He had disappeared.
Then Grace noticed something.
A photograph on the desk.
It showed Ethan’s wedding.
Grace at the back of the church.
Richard was standing behind her.
Watching.
She turned it over.
On the back was a date.
Three months before she had started working at the estate.
Ethan stared.
“Richard knew you were coming.”
Grace nodded.
“But why?”
“Maybe my grandfather told him.”
“No.”
She shook her head.
“Your grandfather wouldn’t trust him.”
They searched the archive again.
This time, they found a hidden audio file.
Ethan’s grandfather’s voice.
If Richard is reading this, you will not get what you want.
Richard’s voice followed.
You think Ethan will understand?
Grandfather:
He doesn’t need to. He needs to survive.
Richard:
And the girl?
Grandfather:
She stays out of this.
Richard laughed.
She already knows too much.
The recording ended.
Grace covered her mouth.
Ethan stared at the screen.
“He knew about you.”
“Yes.”
“Before you met me.”
“Yes.”
“Then why did he let you become my maid?”
Grace looked at him.
“Because he wanted to keep me where he could protect me.”
Ethan nodded.
But then another recording appeared.
Richard’s voice.
When the accident fails, use the wedding.
Ethan’s blood ran cold.
“What does that mean?”
Grace stared.
“The wedding was a trap.”
