Paralyzed Millionaire Was Abandoned at the Altar — Then He Looked at the Maid and Said…
Chapter 7
Ethan found Grace at the hospital with Noah.
She looked up when he entered.
“I told you to stay away.”
“I know.”
“Then why are you here?”
He sat across from her.
“Because I owe you an apology.”
She stared.
“I judged you.”
“Yes.”
“I thought you were leaving because of money.”
“I was scared.”
“So was I.”
She looked down.
“I know.”
He reached for her hand.
She didn’t move away this time.
“My uncle admitted he was involved in my accident.”
Grace’s face turned pale.
“I knew it.”
“You knew?”
“No. I suspected.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because suspicion isn’t proof.”
He nodded.
“You were right.”
She looked at him.
“And now?”
“Now I know.”
He told her everything.
His grandfather.
The hidden files.
The payments.
The investigation.
Grace listened silently.
Then she said:
“Your grandfather protected Noah because he believed his life was in danger.”
Ethan nodded.
“He protected you too.”
She looked away.
“Your grandfather gave me this job.”
“I know.”
“I thought the estate was just looking for cheap labor.”
Ethan smiled faintly.
“He did have a strange sense of humor.”
Grace laughed through tears.
Then silence.
Ethan said:
“I love you.”
She closed her eyes.
“Don’t.”
“Why?”
“Because I want to believe you.”
“Then believe me.”
“I don’t know how.”
He moved closer.
“I’ll give you time.”
She looked at him.
“You mean that?”
“Yes.”
“No pressure?”
“No.”
“No money?”
“No.”
“No promises you can’t keep?”
“No.”
She smiled.
“Then maybe.”
That evening, Grace returned to the estate.
Not as a maid.
As Ethan’s guest.
For the first time, she entered through the front door.
The staff looked surprised.
Ethan introduced her.
“This is Grace.”
Nobody dared ask anything else.
Then Richard appeared.
He looked at Grace.
His expression changed.
“You.”
Grace froze.
Richard smiled.
“I thought you were gone.”
Ethan moved between them.
“You know her?”
Richard laughed.
“Of course.”
“From where?”
Richard’s eyes stayed on Grace.
“Her brother.”
Grace stepped closer.
“What did you do to Noah?”
Richard looked at her.
“Nothing.”
“You threatened him.”
“I gave him a warning.”
“What happened to him?”
Richard shrugged.
“He should have stayed quiet.”
Ethan’s hands tightened.
“Get out.”
Richard didn’t move.
Then he looked at Ethan.
“Your grandfather was wrong about one thing.”
“What?”
“He thought the company could survive without me.”
Richard left.
Grace whispered:
“Your uncle is dangerous.”
Ethan nodded.
“I know.”
That night, security found something on the estate grounds.
A small camera.
Pointed directly at Grace’s bedroom window.
Someone had been watching her.
The danger was no longer hidden.
It was inside the house.
