Millionaire Sent Her $200K by Mistake — And He Never Expected What She Did Next!

Chapter 7

Diane’s room was empty.

The bed was neatly made.

Her medication was untouched.

The window was locked from inside.

There was no sign of a struggle.

Emma’s heart pounded.

“She was here.”

Daniel checked the security system.

“Someone disabled the cameras for four minutes.”

“Four minutes?”

“Exactly.”

He looked at the screen.

“The person knew the system.”

Emma whispered:

“Someone inside your company.”

Daniel nodded.

“Or someone inside the security team.”

They searched the house.

A note lay beneath Diane’s pillow.

Three words.

Find Saint Claire.

Emma looked confused.

“What’s Saint Claire?”

Daniel thought.

“St. Claire’s Chapel.”

“Where?”

“Outside the city.”

They drove there.

The chapel had been abandoned for years.

Inside, dust covered the pews.

Daniel found a loose floorboard.

Underneath was an old key.

Attached to it was a brass tag.

Locker 19.

The chapel basement contained a row of rusted lockers.

Number 19 opened.

Inside was a small suitcase.

Diane’s clothes.

A photograph.

And a letter addressed to Emma.

She opened it.

My daughter,

If you are reading this, I am sorry.

I wanted you to know the truth before I was taken again.

Yes.

Again.

Emma’s hands shook.

The letter continued.

I was not abandoned by your father.

I helped him disappear because it was the only way to keep you alive.

He is alive.

Emma stopped breathing.

Daniel read over her shoulder.

There was more.

Your father has been searching for the woman who started everything.

Her name is Elena.

She was the first person the network tried to erase.

She knows where the original ledger is.

Emma whispered:

“Who is Elena?”

The answer was in another photograph.

A young woman holding a baby.

The baby was Emma.

Emma stared.

“That baby is me.”

Daniel nodded.

“Then Elena knew your mother.”

“Yes.”

“Where is she?”

The letter gave an address.

A farm nearly five hundred miles away.

They drove through the night.

At sunrise, they reached an old farmhouse.

An elderly woman opened the door.

She looked at Emma.

Then covered her mouth.

“Diane’s daughter.”

Emma nodded.

“Are you Elena?”

“Yes.”

Elena stepped aside.

Inside were photographs.

Dozens of them.

Women.

Children.

New identities.

Safe houses.

And one photograph of Daniel’s father.

Elena pointed.

“He saved my life.”

Emma sat down.

“What happened to him?”

“He went back for others.”

“Did he survive?”

Elena nodded.

“He did.”

Daniel stared at her.

“Where is he?”

Elena looked at him.

“He’s not here.”

“Then where?”

“He believed you weren’t safe yet.”

Daniel clenched his fists.

“He could have contacted me.”

“He did.”

Daniel froze.

“What?”

Elena opened a drawer.

Inside were letters.

All addressed to Daniel.

None had been delivered.

“He wrote these over twelve years.”

Daniel took the first letter.

His hands trembled.

Why didn’t he send them?

Elena answered:

“Because every person he trusted was being watched.”

Emma asked:

“Who watched him?”

Elena looked at her.

“The man who now controls the network.”

“Your uncle?”

“No.”

She looked at Daniel.

“Your uncle works for him.”

Daniel froze.

“Then who?”

Elena hesitated.

“You’ve met him.”

Emma frowned.

“We have?”

Elena nodded.

“The man who sent you the $200,000.”
