I Was the Only Employee Sitting Alone at My Boss’s Wedding — Then Her Younger Sister Whispered a Secret That Changed Everything
Chapter 10
Dating Olivia was not easy.
She was still my former boss.
She still woke up at five.
She still worked too much.
She still tried to solve everything herself.
But now, she let me challenge her.
Sometimes she’d call me at midnight.
“Are you awake?”
“No.”
“Good.”
“Then why did you call?”
“I missed you.”
I would smile.
“That’s better.”
Our relationship grew slowly.
We didn’t move in together immediately.
We didn’t rush toward marriage.
We learned each other’s habits.
She loved quiet mornings.
I loved late-night walks.
She drank expensive wine.
I preferred cheap beer.
She planned everything.
I improvised.
Somehow, it worked.
One evening, she took me to her father’s old study.
“This is where I found the first letter.”
She opened a drawer.
Inside was another photograph.
Her father.
Her mother.
Olivia and Natalie as children.
And a young man standing in the background.
I looked closer.
“Who is that?”
She smiled.
“My father’s youngest lawyer.”
I stared.
It was my father.
I froze.
“What?”
Olivia looked surprised.
“My father knew your father.”
She opened another drawer.
More photographs.
Letters.
Old legal documents.
Our families had crossed paths long before we knew each other.
I sat down.
This couldn’t be coincidence.
My father had worked on early Hartwell acquisitions.
He had once advised Olivia’s father.
And according to the letters, he had helped protect the company from the same people who later worked with Ethan.
Olivia looked at me.
“Maybe this was always coming.”
I smiled.
“Don’t say that.”
“Why?”
“It makes it sound like destiny.”
She smiled.
“Maybe it is.”
I kissed her.
For once, I didn’t argue.
