I Thought My Fiancée Was Choosing Her Male Best Friend — Then I Discovered She Was Protecting Him From a Deadly Secret
Chapter 9
The wedding was postponed.
Neither Ethan nor Sophia wanted to celebrate while everything remained unresolved.
Months later, after the trial began, Ethan proposed again.
Not with a larger ring.
Not with a more expensive venue.
He simply asked her one evening while they were cooking dinner.
“Still want to marry me?”
Sophia smiled.
“I thought we were already engaged.”
“We’ve been engaged for a very stressful year.”
She laughed.
“So?”
“So I want to know if you still choose me.”
She turned off the stove.
“After all of this?”
“Especially after all of this.”
She kissed him.
“Yes.”
Their wedding was small.
Daniel attended.
Sophia’s mother sat in the front row.
The ceremony took place in a garden.
No media.
No business executives.
No luxury displays.
When Sophia walked down the aisle, Ethan smiled.
She reached him.
“You nervous?”
“Terrified.”
“Good.”
He laughed.
During the vows, Ethan said:
“I used to think your friendship with Daniel was a threat to us.”
Sophia smiled through tears.
“I know.”
“I was wrong.”
He took her hands.
“It wasn’t another man I was afraid of.”
“What were you afraid of?”
“Losing you.”
She squeezed his fingers.
“And now?”
“Now I know that trust isn’t never feeling afraid.”
He looked into her eyes.
“It’s choosing honesty even when the truth scares you.”
Sophia smiled.
They married.
And Daniel stood beside them as a witness.
The same man who had once seemed like a threat had become one of their closest friends.
