I Thought My Fiancée Was Choosing Her Male Best Friend — Then I Discovered She Was Protecting Him From a Deadly Secret
Chapter 14
On their tenth wedding anniversary, Ethan surprised Sophia with a trip.
They returned to the same riverfront park.
He had arranged a small picnic.
Nothing extravagant.
Just food.
Wine.
Their daughter.
And a photograph.
It showed the three of them from years earlier.
Daniel was in the background.
Sophia laughed.
“I can’t believe we were ever that young.”
Ethan smiled.
“I can.”
“You were so jealous.”
“I was.”
“You hated Daniel.”
“I didn’t hate him.”
She raised an eyebrow.
“I strongly disliked him.”
She laughed.
Then she became serious.
“I’m glad you asked.”
“About Daniel?”
“Yes.”
He looked surprised.
“Why?”
“Because if you had stayed silent, we might have drifted apart.”
Ethan nodded.
“And if you had told me everything immediately?”
“Maybe we wouldn’t have gone through half of this.”
They laughed.
Then Sophia took his hand.
“I don’t regret it.”
“Really?”
“I regret the fear.”
She looked at their daughter.
“But I don’t regret the lesson.”
Ethan kissed her.
Their daughter groaned.
“You’re embarrassing.”
They laughed.
The sunset reflected across the water.
The same place where suspicion had once threatened their relationship now held a memory of trust.
