Billionaire CEO Froze as Her Paralyzed Daughter Ran to a Single Dad—A Hidden Navy SEAL
Chapter 7
Victor Shaw had vanished from public records five years earlier.
But Daniel knew how to find people who didn’t want to be found.
He followed financial transactions.
Old associates.
Property records.
Eventually, one address emerged.
An abandoned warehouse near the river.
Daniel entered alone.
Claire waited outside with Marcus and two security officers.
Inside, darkness covered the concrete floor.
Daniel moved slowly.
A voice came from behind.
“You got old.”
Daniel turned.
Victor Shaw stood beneath a hanging light.
Gray hair.
Scar across his cheek.
Still dangerous.
“You’re alive,” Daniel said.
Victor smiled.
“Disappointed?”
“What happened to Reed?”
“Dead.”
“You’re lying.”
“Maybe.”
Daniel stepped closer.
“Why are you after Lily?”
Victor’s expression changed.
“I’m not.”
“Then who is?”
Victor didn’t answer.
“Why did you tell me to look at Bennett International?”
“Because your friend is closer than you think.”
“My friend?”
Victor looked toward the door.
“Claire Bennett.”
Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
“Leave her out of this.”
Victor laughed.
“You still protect everyone except yourself.”
“What happened six years ago?”
Victor sighed.
“Your mission wasn’t betrayed by one person.”
Daniel froze.
“Then who?”
“Money.”
“What does that mean?”
“Someone sold information.”
“Who?”
Victor reached into his coat.
Daniel prepared himself.
But Victor pulled out a photograph.
Three men stood together.
Victor.
Daniel.
And a third man.
Daniel stared.
“Commander Reed.”
Victor nodded.
“He was alive.”
“Where?”
“He died trying to expose the truth.”
Daniel’s expression hardened.
“What truth?”
Victor looked toward the warehouse entrance.
“Your unit was used to recover something.”
“What?”
“A data package.”
Daniel remembered.
During the mission, they had recovered a small encrypted device from the compound.
He had been ordered to surrender it.
He never saw it again.
Victor said:
“That device contained financial records.”
“Whose?”
“People connected to Black Harbor.”
Daniel realized.
The military operation hadn’t been only a rescue.
Someone had wanted the data.
“Who ordered the mission?”
Victor looked at him.
“That’s the question.”
A shot cracked through the warehouse.
Victor fell.
Daniel dragged him behind a concrete barrier.
More shots.
Daniel moved with practiced precision.
Claire heard the gunfire outside.
She ran inside despite Marcus shouting after her.
Daniel saw her.
“What are you doing?”
“Helping.”
“You shouldn’t be here!”
A bullet struck the wall.
Claire ducked.
Daniel pulled her behind cover.
“You’re impossible.”
“So I’ve been told.”
Victor coughed.
“They’re here for the file.”
“What file?” Claire asked.
Victor looked at her.
“Your father kept it.”
Claire froze.
“My father?”
Victor nodded.
“He knew what happened.”
