Billionaire CEO Froze as Her Paralyzed Daughter Ran to a Single Dad—A Hidden Navy SEAL
Chapter 9
The accident report contained inconsistencies.
The brakes had failed.
The vehicle had been traveling normally.
The other driver had no criminal history.
But a traffic camera showed another vehicle following them.
That vehicle disappeared before the crash.
Claire stared at the footage.
“My daughter was targeted?”
“We don’t know.”
Daniel shook his head.
“We need evidence.”
They found the vehicle’s registration.
A shell company.
The company had dissolved months later.
But its accountant was still alive.
His name was Samuel Grant.
He agreed to meet.
Samuel was terrified.
“I didn’t know what the company did.”
“What did it do?” Claire asked.
“Transportation.”
“Of what?”
“Equipment.”
Daniel asked:
“Black Harbor?”
Samuel looked at him.
“Yes.”
“Who hired them?”
Samuel whispered:
“Victor Shaw.”
Daniel’s jaw tightened.
“Victor?”
Samuel nodded.
“But Victor wasn’t the one giving orders.”
“Who was?”
Samuel looked at Claire.
“Your father’s business partner.”
Claire froze.
“My father had no business partner.”
“He did.”
“Who?”
Samuel handed her a photograph.
Claire stared.
The man beside her father was someone she recognized immediately.
Her father’s closest adviser.
Richard Bennett.
Her uncle.
She had trusted him for years.
Richard had helped raise her after her father died.
He had been chairman of the board.
He had attended Lily’s hospital appointments.
He had comforted Claire after the accident.
Daniel looked at the photograph.
“Where is he now?”
“At the company.”
Claire’s face hardened.
She called him.
“Uncle Richard.”
His voice was warm.
“Claire. Is everything okay?”
“No.”
Silence.
“What happened?”
“I found Dad’s archive.”
Another silence.
Then:
“You shouldn’t have opened that.”
Claire closed her eyes.
“Why?”
“You don’t understand.”
“Then explain.”
“I was trying to protect you.”
Claire almost laughed.
“Everyone keeps saying that.”
Richard’s voice became cold.
“Listen carefully. Stop digging.”
“Did you arrange Lily’s accident?”
Silence.
“Answer me.”
“I didn’t.”
“Did you know it was going to happen?”
Another silence.
Daniel moved closer.
Richard finally said:
“I knew someone was watching your family.”
Claire’s heart sank.
“Who?”
“I can’t tell you.”
“Why?”
“Because if I do, they will kill you.”
The line went dead.
Daniel looked at Claire.
“We need Lily somewhere safe.”
They moved her to a secure medical facility.
Lily was frightened.
“Mom?”
“Yes?”
“Is Daniel leaving?”
Claire looked at him.
“No.”
Daniel knelt beside Lily.
“I’ll stay.”
Lily smiled.
Then she whispered:
“I remember the car.”
Claire froze.
“What do you remember?”
“Someone was following us.”
Daniel looked at Claire.
“What else?”
Lily closed her eyes.
“A black car.”
Then she opened them.
“There was a man inside.”
“Did you see him?”
She nodded.
“Who?”
Lily looked toward the door.
“Uncle Richard.”
