Billionaire CEO Froze as Her Paralyzed Daughter Ran to a Single Dad—A Hidden Navy SEAL

Chapter 4

Claire arrived at Daniel’s apartment that afternoon.

She expected a modest home.

She found something more revealing.

Everything was organized.

Shoes aligned.

Furniture minimal.

Kitchen counters empty.

Windows unobstructed.

The apartment had the uncomfortable neatness of a place designed for emergencies.

Daniel opened the door.

“You shouldn’t be here.”

Claire stepped inside.

“Someone threatened you.”

His expression changed.

“How do you know?”

“My security team traced a call made to your phone.”

Daniel looked at her.

“Then you need to leave.”

“No.”

“Claire.”

It was the first time he’d used her name.

“You’re in danger too.”

She stared at him.

“Why?”

Daniel glanced toward Evan’s room.

“Because someone believes Lily’s recovery has something to do with me.”

Claire’s face tightened.

“You think they caused her injury?”

“No.”

“Then what?”

“I don’t know.”

Claire stepped closer.

“I deserve the truth.”

Daniel remained silent.

Finally he said:

“I served in the Navy.”

“I know.”

“Not ordinary service.”

Claire waited.

“Special operations.”

She had suspected it.

Hearing it still changed the room.

“I was part of a classified unit.”

“What did you do?”

“Rescue missions.”

“Combat?”

“Sometimes.”

“Why leave?”

Daniel looked at his son.

“Because my wife died.”

Claire softened.

“I didn’t know.”

“Most people don’t.”

“What happened?”

“Car accident.”

Daniel’s voice remained flat.

“She died when Evan was two.”

Claire understood the emptiness behind his guarded behavior.

“And after that?”

“I left the service.”

“Why?”

“I couldn’t keep being a man who disappeared for months and came home pretending everything was fine.”

Claire looked at him.

“You saved Lily yesterday.”

“I caught her.”

“You knew exactly what to do.”

“Training.”

“Can training explain what happened afterward?”

Daniel didn’t answer.

Claire stepped closer.

“My daughter stood for the first time in three years.”

Daniel looked at her.

“I know.”

“Did you notice something?”

“Yes.”

“What?”

“Her left leg.”

Claire waited.

“It responded before the right.”

“What does that mean?”

“I’m not a doctor.”

“But you’re hiding something.”

Daniel sighed.

“Your daughter grabbed my sleeve when she fell.”

“And?”

“She said something.”

“What?”

“She said she could feel my hand.”

Claire froze.

“Feel?”

“Yes.”

“Lily hasn’t had normal sensation in that leg.”

Daniel nodded.

“That’s why I’m concerned.”

Claire stared at him.

“So am I.”

A noise came from outside.

Daniel immediately moved.

He pulled Claire away from the window.

“Stay down.”

“What?”

“Now.”

The window shattered.

Glass exploded across the room.

Daniel pushed Claire behind the wall.

Evan screamed.

Daniel moved toward him.

“Evan!”

He scooped up his son.

Another shot struck the wall.

Claire’s security team rushed through the front door.

Daniel carried Evan into the hallway.

“Emergency exit!”

Claire followed.

They escaped through the stairwell.

Outside, Marcus had already called police.

Daniel looked back at the apartment.

Someone had tried to kill him.

And now Claire had seen it.

There was no hiding anymore.
