Bank Employee Humiliated a Poor Single Dad — Unaware He Owns the Entire Bank
Chapter 7
Daniel watched the video three times.
His father’s warning about Rebecca changed the entire picture.
For weeks, Rebecca had seemed frightened and helpful.
She had warned Daniel about the board.
She had told him about Victor Crane.
She had shown him the loan files.
Yet the financial records suggested she had received secret payments for more than a decade.
Daniel didn’t know what to believe.
He called Samuel.
“Did Dad ever mention Rebecca Shaw?”
“Yes.”
“What did he say?”
“That she was useful.”
“Useful?”
Samuel nodded.
“He trusted her with information.”
“But the records show she was paid by Victoria Lang.”
Samuel was silent.
“Maybe she was working for them.”
“Maybe.”
Daniel looked at the USB drive.
“Then why would Dad leave her near me?”
“Because your father always believed people could be doing two things at once.”
“What does that mean?”
“Making bad choices and trying to fix them.”
The next morning, Daniel went to the bank alone.
He asked Rebecca to meet privately.
She entered the conference room.
“What’s wrong?”
Daniel placed a printed transaction record on the table.
Her face went white.
“You know.”
She sat down.
“How?”
“Does it matter?”
Rebecca looked at him.
“I can explain.”
“Were you paid by Victoria Lang?”
“Yes.”
Daniel closed his eyes.
“How long?”
“Eight years.”
“Why?”
“My brother was sick.”
“That doesn’t explain this.”
“They threatened him.”
Daniel stared.
She continued.
“I was supposed to provide information.”
“What kind?”
“Loan applications. Property assessments. Anything that would help them target people.”
“You helped them steal homes.”
Rebecca began crying.
“I know.”
Daniel stood.
“You watched people lose everything.”
“I know.”
“Why are you still here?”
Rebecca looked up.
“Because I was trying to stop it.”
Daniel laughed bitterly.
“By taking their money?”
“I had no choice.”
“There is always a choice.”
She lowered her head.
Then she said something unexpected.
“Your father knew.”
Daniel stopped.
“What?”
“He knew I was working for them.”
“Why didn’t he fire you?”
“Because I was feeding him information.”
Daniel stared.
“You were spying on Victor?”
“Yes.”
“All these years?”
“Yes.”
“Then why did Dad warn me not to trust you?”
Rebecca wiped her tears.
“Because I failed him.”
“How?”
“I found out who was actually controlling Victor.”
Daniel leaned forward.
“Who?”
Rebecca whispered:
“Richard Brooks.”
Daniel’s face went blank.
“My father?”
“No.”
“Then who?”
Rebecca looked at him.
“Your half-brother.”
Daniel froze.
“I don’t have a half-brother.”
Rebecca nodded.
“You do.”
She explained.
Daniel’s father had a son from a relationship before Daniel’s mother.
His name was Richard Brooks.
Richard had been kept secret.
He had spent years inside the financial world.
And he was one of the architects of the bank scheme.
Daniel sat down slowly.
“My father never told me.”
“He was ashamed.”
“Of him?”
“Yes.”
“Where is he?”
Rebecca shook her head.
“We don’t know.”
Then the conference-room phone rang.
No one had called it.
Rebecca looked at the display.
Unknown.
Daniel answered.
A man’s voice spoke.
“Hello, little brother.”
Daniel went completely still.
“I’ve been waiting a long time to meet you.”
The call ended.
Rebecca stared at him.
“What did he say?”
Daniel looked through the glass wall.
Victor Crane was standing in the lobby.
Smiling.
Beside him was Victoria Lang.
And suddenly Daniel realized the bank wasn’t merely divided.
It had been waiting for its real heir to arrive.
