Bank Employee Humiliated a Poor Single Dad — Unaware He Owns the Entire Bank

Chapter 6

Samuel Brooks lived in a small cabin forty miles outside the city.

Daniel found him there that evening.

His uncle was seventy-two, thin, bearded, and slower than Daniel remembered.

When he opened the door, he stared at Daniel for several seconds.

Then his face softened.

“You finally came.”

Daniel frowned.

“You knew I’d come?”

Samuel nodded.

“Your father told me.”

“When?”

“Before he died.”

Daniel stepped inside.

The cabin smelled like cedar and coffee.

On the wall was an old photograph of Daniel as a child.

His father stood beside him.

Samuel looked at the photo.

“He used to say you were the only thing in the world he could never protect by throwing money at the problem.”

Daniel felt a lump in his throat.

“Why didn’t anyone tell me about the bank?”

“Because your father wanted you to grow up without it.”

“He left me the whole thing.”

“He left you the responsibility.”

Daniel sat down.

“Victor Crane.”

Samuel’s face darkened.

“You know him?”

“I know what he’s doing.”

Samuel sighed.

“Your father discovered the scheme years ago.”

“Why didn’t he expose them?”

“He tried.”

“And?”

“They threatened you.”

Daniel went still.

“When?”

“When you were nineteen.”

Daniel remembered.

He had left home after an argument with his father.

His father had suddenly stopped calling.

Daniel thought he was angry.

“He never told me.”

“Because the threat was real.”

Samuel opened a drawer.

Inside was an old envelope.

“He gave me this the night before he died.”

Daniel took it.

Inside was a letter.

Daniel,

There will come a day when my son believes I abandoned him.

Let him believe it if necessary.

A living son is worth more than an innocent reputation.

Daniel’s eyes filled with tears.

He continued reading.

Victor Crane has allies inside the bank.

Victoria Lang is one of them.

But they are not the most dangerous.

There is someone closer.

Someone I once trusted completely.

At the bottom was one initial.

R.

Daniel looked up.

“Who is R?”

Samuel shook his head.

“Your father never told me.”

“What else do you have?”

Samuel opened another drawer.

Inside was a small USB drive.

“He asked me to give you this only when you took control of the bank.”

Daniel stared.

“What is it?”

“Everything.”

Daniel took it.

Back at home, he opened the files.

There were recordings.

Emails.

Financial transfers.

Property maps.

Loan approvals.

One spreadsheet showed millions of dollars moving between the bank and shell companies.

Daniel followed the trail.

Every shell company eventually connected to Victoria Lang.

But then he found another account.

A private trust.

The beneficiary name was hidden.

He opened the attachment.

The beneficiary was listed as:

  1. Brooks.

Daniel froze.

“Brooks?”

He called Thomas.

Within fifteen minutes, Thomas arrived.

They checked the records.

The trust had received payments for eleven years.

Daniel stared at the initials.

“Could it be my uncle?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Samuel was never a beneficiary.”

“Then who?”

Thomas searched.

Then stopped.

The account belonged to…

Rebecca Shaw.

Daniel stared.

“The branch manager?”

Thomas nodded.

Daniel couldn’t breathe.

The woman he thought was protecting him might have been receiving money from the people who were stealing from customers.

He looked at the screen again.

Then another file opened automatically.

It contained a short video.

His father appeared.

This time, he was speaking directly to the camera.

“If Rebecca is still there when you take control…”

Daniel leaned closer.

His father’s expression was grave.

“Do not trust her.”
