Bank Employee Humiliated a Poor Single Dad — Unaware He Owns the Entire Bank
Chapter 4
Daniel left the branch manager’s office with more questions than answers.
He asked Rebecca to keep everything confidential.
She agreed.
But as he crossed the lobby, he noticed Megan watching him.
She looked irritated.
“Did you get your loan?” she asked.
Daniel stopped.
“Not yet.”
Megan smiled.
“Imagine that.”
Thomas stepped between them.
“We’re done here.”
They walked outside.
Daniel stared at the street.
“Someone inside the bank may have been involved in my father’s death.”
Thomas nodded.
“That’s why he created the trust.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I wasn’t certain.”
Daniel turned.
“You knew something.”
“I suspected.”
“That’s different.”
Thomas sighed.
“Your father told me one thing.”
“What?”
“If anything happened to him, protect you.”
Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
“Protect me from whom?”
Thomas looked toward the bank.
“The same people he was fighting.”
Daniel spent the rest of the day going through the trust documents.
The deeper he looked, the stranger the inheritance became.
His father had not simply left him shares.
He had left him control over multiple subsidiaries.
Mortgage firms.
Investment accounts.
Commercial properties.
Insurance holdings.
Daniel’s net worth was enormous.
Yet none of it felt real.
Because the only thing he could think about was Lily.
That evening, he sat beside her hospital bed.
Lily was asleep.
Her small hand rested on the blanket.
Daniel gently touched her forehead.
She opened her eyes.
“Daddy?”
“I’m here.”
“Did the bank help?”
Daniel hesitated.
“No.”
She frowned.
“Why?”
“They thought we couldn’t pay.”
Lily looked confused.
“But you’ll fix it.”
Daniel smiled.
“I’m trying.”
She squeezed his finger.
“You always do.”
Daniel nearly cried.
He kissed her forehead.
The next morning, the hospital called.
The procedure had been moved forward.
It would happen in forty-eight hours.
Daniel needed the money immediately.
He called the bank.
Rebecca answered.
“Mr. Brooks.”
“I need the loan.”
“I know.”
“Can you approve it?”
“I can’t.”
“Why?”
“There’s a board hold on your account.”
Daniel frowned.
“What board hold?”
“I don’t know.”
“You’re the branch manager.”
“I’m being told not to release any funds until the ownership transfer is finalized.”
Daniel understood.
Someone was stalling.
“Who issued the order?”
Rebecca hesitated.
“Corporate.”
“What name?”
“I shouldn’t say.”
“Rebecca.”
Silence.
“Daniel, someone knows you’re taking control.”
“So?”
“They’re trying to force you into making a mistake.”
Daniel looked at Lily’s medical bill.
“I’m running out of time.”
Rebecca’s voice softened.
“Then don’t give them what they want.”
“What do they want?”
“They want you desperate.”
Daniel ended the call.
Then Thomas arrived at his house.
He carried another file.
“What happened?”
Thomas put it on the table.
“The trust transfer is being challenged.”
“By whom?”
“A group of minority shareholders.”
“On what grounds?”
“They claim your father lacked capacity when the trust amendment was signed.”
Daniel stared.
“My father was fine.”
“I know.”
“Then who’s behind it?”
Thomas opened the file.
The challenge was being funded by a private investment group.
Daniel recognized the name immediately.
Lang Capital.
Victoria Lang.
Daniel looked toward his daughter upstairs.
He finally understood.
The humiliation at the bank had not been random.
Someone had wanted him to feel small.
They wanted him desperate enough to sell.
And Megan Price may have been only the first piece of a much larger plan.
