“You Don’t Fit My World Anymore” — He Divorced His Billionaire Wife on a $41 Cab Fare. She Owned…

Chapter 6

Mia wasn’t in her office the next morning.

Daniel found her at the old Mercer estate outside the city.

The house stood behind iron gates and ancient oak trees.

Daniel had been there only once during their marriage.

Mia had told him it was closed for renovation.

It wasn’t.

She was standing in the library when he entered.

“You shouldn’t be here.”

“I found the transfer.”

Mia went still.

“Alex told you.”

“He shouldn’t have.”

“No.”

Daniel took a breath.

“You paid my mother’s medical bills.”

“I did.”

“For how long?”

“Two years.”

“Why?”

“Because I loved you.”

He looked down.

“Even after we married?”

“Especially then.”

Daniel’s eyes burned.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because you already hated the idea of owing me anything.”

He couldn’t deny it.

Mia turned toward the window.

“My mother died when I was sixteen.”

Daniel looked up.

“I didn’t know.”

“You never asked.”

Her voice remained calm.

“After she died, my father became obsessed with protecting me. He created trusts. Shell companies. Holding structures. Private accounts. He made sure I could survive anything.”

She paused.

“But he also taught me something terrible.”

“What?”

“That money makes people lie.”

Daniel swallowed.

“So when we met…”

“I tried to live normally.”

“And when you inherited everything?”

“I still wanted to be normal.”

Daniel looked at her.

“You weren’t.”

She gave him a sad smile.

“No.”

A long silence followed.

“Why did you marry me?”

Mia turned toward him.

“Because you made me feel seen.”

Daniel’s chest tightened.

“Then what changed?”

“You did.”

He nodded slowly.

“I know.”

“No,” she said.

“You don’t.”

She walked to a cabinet and opened it.

Inside was a box.

She placed it on the desk.

“This is why I divorced you.”

Daniel opened it.

Inside was a collection of photographs.

His photographs.

Mia had kept pictures from their first date.

Their wedding.

A road trip.

A Christmas morning.

A picture of Daniel laughing while cooking.

He looked at her.

“I don’t understand.”

“Look closer.”

He did.

Behind several photos were handwritten notes.

Dates.

Times.

Expenses.

Not by Mia.

By someone else.

Daniel’s expression changed.

“Who took these?”

“I don’t know.”

There were pictures of Daniel meeting coworkers.

Daniel leaving restaurants.

Daniel entering a hotel.

Some photographs had been taken before their marriage.

Others only weeks earlier.

Mia looked frightened for the first time.

“Someone has been watching you.”

Daniel looked at the photographs.

“Me?”

“Or me through you.”

He stared at her.

“Do you think someone is trying to use me?”

“I think someone already did.”

Then Mia pulled out one final photograph.

Daniel froze.

It showed him getting into a cab the night he filed for divorce.

And standing across the street…

was a man Daniel recognized.

His former business partner.

Evan Cole.

A man who had disappeared from Mercer Holdings two years earlier.
